A Significant Political Coalition
in Kansas.?Wo learn from the Kan
BB8 Olty (Mo.) Times that the Demo?
crats, Grangers, Liberal Republicans]
end all other elements opposed to the
Republican party, hove uuited on a
common'platform for tho next cam?
paign, which occurs in November.
Kansas has been Republican for twelve
years, but this combination is likely
to revolutionize it, and end tho era of
corruption that hus won for the ?tale j
the title of the "Rotten Common
-wealth." It is probable that similar
coalitions will be made in many of the
other "Western States that will pro\o
disastrous to the dominant party auu
largely affect tho complexion of politi?
cal parties in tho next Presidentini
contest. This last combination is
especially significant in that it shows
the Grangers cannot be counted upon
by the Bepnblican party in the elec?
tions occurring this fall. A conven?
tion of all anti-Bepublicans bus been
called to meet nt Lansing, Michigan,
August 6, for a similar purpose, and
with the more direct view of defeating I
Senator Chandler's re-election by the |
next Legislature.
Bishop Johns, of Virginia, at the
annual Episcopal Diocesan Conventiou
of Virginia, gave an account of the
beginning of rituulism at Oxford,
forty years ago, under tho plausible
pretence of superior cburohmanship, a j
garb it hus alreudy worn, and under
which it has introduced medieval
rites, ceremoniep, perfumes nud atti?
tudes unknown to the rnbric. Of the
action of the Episcopal General Con?
vention, ho said that oue of tho reso?
lutions was too vague, and the other
embolded the innovators, who had in?
troduced services not tu be distin?
guished from the Church of Borne,
and in some instances, they had out
Romanized the R jmann, and brought
ridioule on themselves. He thought
the timo had come for actiuu, und this
dioceso should send delegates to tho
General Conference prepared to breast,
an evil which had become 6caudulou?.
Lowndesville farmers are generally
satisfied with their immigrant laborers.
