of the total population. A short time

The Scientific American predicts that
the time will soon eome when ice will
be manufactured in all our great cities
at a dollar a ton. Manufactured ice at
three dollars a ton has for some time
been in the market of New Orleans.
The land-owners of Texas are taking
measures to crush out the cattle-owners,
who own little or no land. Immense
pastures are being fenced in, and there
will eoon.be no open prairie for cattle.
Chester Pike broke his leg in Con?
cord, and was carried home. His wife
was frightened, and'in running to meet
him, foil over a dog, breaking her arm.
