South Carolina Monument Associa? tion.?The monument proposed to be erected by the women of South Caro? lina, in memory of their gallant dead in the late Confederate war, has boon de? layed in its completion by want of the necessary funds. Tbe cost of tbo monu? ment will bo $10,000; the first install? ment of $5,000 has been already paid to the distinguished architects, Muldoon & Co., of Kentucky, who are proceeding with the monument, which, when finished, will be a noble and beautiful tribute to our deceased soldiers. It is requisite that $5,000 shall bo raised by October next, to completo this sum of $10,000. This oan be easily obtained, if each District will pledge itself to give $200, and if every individual who re? ceives one of these circulars will send tho small sum of 81. Let a treasurer ! and collectors be appointed in every vil l?ge and city, and lot the money collect- j ed by these local treasurers bo promptly forwarded to the General Treasurer, Urs. W. K. Baobman, at Columbia. If tho ladies in these Districts will give the matter their earnest attention, we aro convinced that tbey will soon Booure the amount required. Surely nono will re? fuse to aid in perpetuating the memory o! those who oonnted not their lives dear that they might save the land they loved so well; and though tho cause1 tbey died for be lost, all is not lost, so long as their grand epitaph, "They diod for their principles," whether engraven on marble or on the tablets of our hearts, shall contain for us and for future gene? rations inspiration and hope.
