A Kkmakkabue Opera Troupe.?An
extraordinary public entertainment has
been produced in Lima, Peru, by an
Italian named Oontarim, who proposes
to oarry his exhibition to Europe. He
has taught and trained, by dint of great
patience and perseverance, an opera
company, made up of thirty parrots and
paroquets, who perform two of Belliui's
operas?"Norma" and "Sonnambulu"?
on a miniature stage, with full ohorus
and recitative. The director and mana
*ger accompanies the artists on a piano !
harmonium, and the perfection with
which eaoh bird sings his part and the
excellence of the chorus are prodigious.
The debut of this lyrioo-ornithologioal
company in "Norma" was attended by
the wealth and fashion of Lima. When
the paroquet that sang tho contralto
finished the allegro in the "Salutation
to the Moon," such was the enthusiasm,
the shouting and tbe applause at hear?
ing a bird sing the "Oasta Diva," that
the bird company, affrighted, took
flight and Bought refuge among the Bide
scenes. This interrupted tho perform?
ance for fully a quarter of an hour, and
Signor Contarini had to tranquillize the
"artists" by giving them bread soaked
in wine.
A Race op Dwarfs.?Tho Geographi?
cal Society of Italy has received from

of the explorer, Miani, und various eth?

the Akha or Tikkn-Tikki, and whom
the learned traveler had bought of the
King Mnuza. Theso individuals, says
the London Medical Record?of whom
one is eighteen years old and forty
inohes in height, and tho other sixteen
years and thirty-one inches high?arc
stated by Miani to belong to the ruco of
dwarfs described by Herodotus, and re?
cently rediscovered by tho German ex?
plorer Sohweinfurtb, who describes
them carefully. They are pot-bellied,
very thin limbed and kuook-kuoed, with
spherical and prognathous crania, very
long limbs, copper skins and crisp,
tow-like hair.
