Fibe-wobks in Qeoboia.?It is hard
to convince a woman. A Wilkinson
Ooonty man carried home some lire
works for his son and heir, and his wife |
undertook to snperintend the display.
The husband protested that ho would
fix the tricks, bnt a sarcastic remark
from the partner of his joys, to tho ef?
fect that some men thought they knew
everything, silenced him. Tbo woman
then prooeoded to show her son how it
was done. She first seized a Kornau
eandle and grimly proceeded to ignite it.
The fuse was damp, and to facilitate
matters the woman fanned the spark
into life by blowing on it. Tho re?
sponse of the candle was too sadden to
contemplate. The front hair and eyo
brows of the adventurous female disap?
peared as if by magio, and tho candle j
fell into the collection of Urn-works, and
proceeded to fire itself off with great ex?
actness, igniting tho other projectiles.
A casual sky rooket skimmed along
tho grass, causing tho family oat to
ascend the nearest tree with great vio?
lence, wbilo a fiery serpent took refugo
in the.husband's bosom. The author of
all this trouble, discovering that her
olothiug was on fire, sailed around tho
hoaso with as much earnestness as tho
liveliest pyrotechnic, and it was some]
moments before the frightened hut.baud
oould arrest her wild career. Later, the
son and heir was found under tho house
with tho baokof his jacket burned out.
The woman is now an invalid, and the
man writes to a friend that ho never had
a quieter or moro onjoyablo now year.
