Pk?teotion for Wives ?Judgments
amounting to $3,700 have been rendered
against a Mattoon (III.) saloon keeper
and in favor of the wives of three
drunken husbands, to whom the saloon
keeper had been in the habit of Belling
liquor, and who neglected to ascertain
whether the said wives bad granted to
the said husbands the usual "permit" in
Buch oases made and provided.
A Danbury husband is of opinion
that no woman, however nervous 6he
may be, has a tight to wake her hns
band from a sonnd sleep, only to tell
him, on his inquiring what is the mat?
ter, "Nothing, only I wanted to know
if yon were awake." I

Is despair, a St. Paul reporter put it
in this way: "I wish I was an Indian, a
Modoo or a Ute; I'm'tired of hunting
items with the mud above my boot."

THE CITIZENS' SAVINGS BANK OF I
SOOTH CAROLINA has to-day gone into |
voluntary bankruptcy, under onr advico.
This advice has been given as the most ef?
fectual means of protecting the interests of
its depositors and? other creditors?who can
thus, and thus only, have the management
and control of its ?snots?instead or their
being placed in the hands of a receiver, in
whose selection they have no voice.
The Onicera of the Bank will, at an early
day, publish a statement, giving full infor?
mation of its affairB.
We would warn depositors and creditors I
not to barter their claims to speculators and
other interested parties, as wc uro informed '
there exists a moat dangerous combination,
whoso object is to obtain a controlling inte?
rest, to the destruction of the Bank and the |
detriment of depositors.
Wo would (.further adviso tho depositors
and creditors to retain thoir claims until tho
publication aboyo referred to has been made,
which, in our. opinion, will justify the wis?
dom and policy of tho course adopted in
their interest, aud will suggest a plau, which,
if heartily co-operated in by depositors and
creditors, will save them from loss.
