Wfc Bush, the Retiring ohaplain of the Bing ham ton Asylum for inebriates,, thinks that institution is practically a failure. Cases of reform are few. "Only three of the eighty-two patients under the first administration," says Mr. Bush, "have continned in a courso of total abstinence; and all these eighty-two belonged, to the higher olass of sooiety and were intelligent, ednoated men. Many of these are dead and died in a manner not .pleasant to contem? plate. The re?t?alas for them 1" The ladies of Springfield, "Vt., have formed an association pledged to wear a sensible style of dress, and not to adopt any new fashion unless it be an im? provement on the old one. , Bnt since the fair sex invariably regards every prevailing style as pre-eminently sensi? ble, and every obange of fashion aa a deoided improvement, we don't seo how the association in question is materially to alter the existieg order of things. What it is to bb Famous.?Peter Noll, of Cincinnati, on whose brow rests the laurels gained by manufactur? ing the -first glass of lager beer ever * made in that city, was waited upon by six blooming damsola clad in white and with blue eashee, recently, and present? ed with a gold-headed cane in token of his early enterprise, ingenuity and dis? criminating swallow. - The brothers, acquaintances, and landlady of Mrs. Cayby, of London, went to examine a corpse that was taken from the Thames, recently, and posi? tively identified the body by numerous marks, Boars, and general resemblance. The same day the veritable Mrs. Cayby returned home, active and well, from a trip she had made to Scotland, to the utter oonf usion of her sorrowing friends. The plan of correcting the echo in public halls by stretching wire aoross them from wall to wall, has had a practi? cal trial in the Cathedral at Cork, and is said to have given satisfactory results.
