An Infamous Cbime tn an Ohio Town.
A despatch from Mansfield, Ohio, says
that some time ago, W. H. Dobbs, a
farmer, attempted to outrage a little
girl named" Barnard, but failed in his
attempt, and was arrested. A suit is
now pending in the oourts against him.
In order to prevent the attendance of
the girl and her father as witnesses,
Dobbs employed two ruffians named
Lightfoot and Winfield, to blow up
Barnard's bouse. Winfield betrayed the
others in time to prevent the execution
Of the scheme, which was to have taken j
place on Wednesday night. Dobbs and j
Lightfoot were arrested, and in the lat
ter'e possession was found a quantity of
powder and a fuse. The affair created
much excitement.
The highest mountain in the North
American continent is Mount St. Elias,
in Alaska, whose elsvation is 17,9001
feet. Next to it comes the volcano of
Popooatapetl, in Mexico, 17.884 feet,
and Orizaba, also in Mexico, 17,373 feet.
