COUPON BONDS,
Secured by a Morlgage on (lie entire Pro
perty of the Road, Interest Payable
Semi-Annually, on the 1st of
January and 1st of July. ?
The Central National Bank,
UIT COLUMBIA,
OFFERS for ealea limited amount of above-1
mentioned BONDS, at the following rates:
FIRST MORTGAGE BONDS, (only$10,000per
mile,) at B2 cents and accrued interest; SE?
COND MORTOAGE, (only $5,000 per mile.)
at 75 oonta and acoined interest, and recom?
mend them to TrnBteea and others having
money to invest, as being the most desirable
security on the market, tor the following rea?
sons, to wit:
FlBBT. ?THEY CANNOT be TAXED BY THE STATE,
County on City. The United Statea Supreme
Court, in the ease of the Northern Central
Railroad vs. Jaokaon. (see 7 Wallace, Snpreme
Court D. S . page 267.) decided that, when a
Railroad mortgage is a joint one,on property
lying in two or more btates, the bonds se?
cured thereby are not liable to be) taxed by
either of the States; and the aame principle
relieves them from taxation by County, City,
or Town. The Charlotte, Columbia and Au
gaata bonds are eeoured by a Joint mortgage
on property lying in North Carolina, South
Carolina and Georgia.
Second.?Because they are absolutely safe,
being secured by a first mortgage or only
$10,000, and a aeoond mortgage of only $5,000
per mile on the entire read from Charlotte to
Augusta, and on all the workshops, bridges,
franchise and equipments of Bald road.
Third,-Because the sale of tbefirat mort?
gage bonda will extinguish the floating debt
of the road, and the proceeds of tho aeoond
mortgage bonds will be exclusively applied
to improving the road and adding to its
equipments; thua enhancing the value of the
property mortgaged.
?Fourth.?Because tlio bonds aro conpon
bonda, and the interest payable in New York,
Charlotte, Columbia or Augusta, at the op?
tion of tho holder. Thus tb y can be col
looted through any bank without expense.
Fifth.?The busincas-of tho Ro^.d >s rapidly
increasing, and tho property and franchise
daily becoming more valuable?tho net earn?
ings for the last fivo montba boing ovor fifty
per cent, more than for tho corresponding
months of tho preceding year.
Sixth ?These Bonds aro practically re?
deemable in gold, for specie payment will cer?
tainly bo resumed bolero tbeir maturity. In?
vestors will, therefore, buy with greenbacks
wotth H'l] conts, and receive their pay at par
?tliUB adding a profit of ovr.n thirty cents
on tho dollar on the First Mortgage llomls,
and ovru thirty-seven cents on the Second
Mortgage Bonds, and in tho meantime receiv?
ing a high rato of interest.
Finally.?As theso Bonds havo a fixed
value in New York, Charlotte, Columbia und
Augusta, thoy are considered good collate?
rals, on which money can always bo borrowed
for temporary purposes.

and Consumption.
AMONG the great dis?
coveries of modern
science, few are of more
real value to mankind
than this effeetual re?
medy for all diseases
of the Throat and
Lungs. A vast trial of
its virtues, throughout
this and ether ooun
trios, has shown that it
does surely and effect?
ually control them. The testimony of our
best citizens, of all classes, establishes the
faot, that OOJCBBT Pbgtobax. will and does re?
lieve and euro the afflicting disorders of the
Throat and Lungs beyond any other medi?
cine. The most dangerous affections of the
Pulmonary Organs yield to its power; and
cases of Consumption, cured by this prepa?
ration, are public!y known, so remarkable as |
hardly to be believed, were they not proven
beyond dispute. As a remedy, it is adequate,
on which the public may rely for full protec?
tion. By curing Cough?, the fore-runners of I
more sa/tous disease, it saves unnumbered |
live a, and an amount of suffering not to be
computed. It challenges trial, and convinces
the moat skeptical. Every family should
keep it on hand as a protection againBt tho
early and unperoeived attack of Pulmonary
Affections, which are easily met at first, but
whioh beoome inourable, and too often fatal,
if neglected. Tender lungs noed this de?
fence; and it is unwieo to be without it. As a
safeguard to children, amid the distressing
diseases which beset the Throat and Cheat of
childhood, Chkhuy Pkotohal 1b invaluable:
for, by ita timely use, multitudes are rescued
from premature graves, and saved to the lore
and affeotion centred on them. It acia
speodily and surely against ordinary colds,
securing sound and health-reetoriug sleep.
No one will Buffer troubloBomo Influcnsa
and painful Broncnltl?, when they know how
easily they can be cured.
Originally the product of long, laborious,
and successful chemioal investigation, no
coBt or toil is spared in making every bottle
in the utmost possible perfection. It may be
confidently relied upon as possessing all tho
virtues it has ever exhibited, and capable of
producing eures as memorable as the greatest j
