From trie legend or Rabbi Ben Levi.
Then straight into the city of tbo Lord
The Rabbi leaped with, the Death Angel's
Bword,
And through the streets there Bwept a sud?
den breath
Of something there unknown, which men call
death.
Meanwhile the Angel staid without, and cried,
Come backl To which the Rabbi's voice re?
plied,
Not in the name of God, whom I adoro,
I swear that hence I will depart no more!
Then all the Angels oried, O IJoly Ouo,
See what tho Bon of Levi here hath donel
The kingdom of Heaven he takes by violence,
And in Thy name refuses to go he net I
The Lord replied, My Angola, bo not wroth;
Did e'er the son of Levi break bis oath?
Let him remain; for her with mortal eye
Shall look upon my face and yet not die.
Beyond the outer wall tho Angel of Death
Heard the great voice, and said, with panting
breath,
Give back the sword, and let me go my way.
Whereat the Rabbi paused, and answered,
May I
AuRuiah enough already has it caused
Among tho sons of men. And whilo he paused
He heard the awful mandate of tho Lord
Reaounding through the air?Give back the
sword!
The Rabbi bowed his head in ailont prayer;
Tben said he to the dreadful angel, Swear
No human eye shall look on it again;
But when thou takeet away tho souls of men,
Thyself unseen, and with an uneeen sword,
Thou wilt perform the bidding of tbo Lord.
The Angel took tbo sword again, and swore,
And walks on earth unseen forevermoro.

FlBBT.?THEY CANHOTBE TAXED bt TUESTATE,
ocnty ob City. Tho United States Supreme
Court, in the eaBO of the Northern Central
Railroad vs. Jackson, (see 7 Wallace, Supreme
Court U. 8., page 267,) decided that, when a
Railroad mortgage is a joint one,on property
lying in two or more states, the bonds se?
cured thereby are not liable to be| taxed by
either of the States; and the same principle
relieves them from taxation by County, City,
or Town. The Charlotte, Columbia and Au?
gusta bonds are scoured by a joint mortgage
on property lying in North Carolina, Sooth
Carolina and Georgia.
Sxookd.?Because they are absolutely safe,
being secured by a first mortgage of only
$10,000, and a second inortfrage of only 15,000

of the road, and the proceeds of the second

equipments; thus enhancing the value of the
property mortgaged.
?Foubth.?Because tho bonds are coupon
bonds, and the interest payable in New York,
Charlotte, Columbia or Augusta, at the op?

lected through any bank without expense.
Firva.?The business of the Road is rapidly
increasing, and the property and franohise
daily becoming more valuable?the net earn,

months of tho preoeding year.

Finally.?As theao .Bonds have a fixod
