of MM-t Lodmie; Mria Telegraph i Oom -
pany 4H>vem a ??*t-number, of poeaibla
nie?) of electricity, nil of fhem koowa
and all equally undeveloped because of
supposed natural obstacles. But the pro
joob from which' the Company takes its
corporate title-is at. the first glanoft so
wild as to start-la one into an expression
of inorqdulity. To raise a lofty, tower,
surmodnted by a td.ll mast, on tho high?
est peak of the Kooky Mountains;- the nee
to send telegraphic messsges across the
thousands of miles of continent, lake
and ocean, to a similar structure on the
summit of the Alps, is Dr. Loomia'pro?
ject. Bold as it is, and apparently im?
possible, if we can but divest oar minds
of familiarity with the known uses of
eleotrioity, we oah understand that, in
itself, telegraphing without wires is no
more wonderful to as than the invention
of Prof, Morse was to our fathers' expe?
rience. No one can set- a limit to the
possibilities of the'subtle agent culled
eleotrioity; and although it has failffd to
furnish meohanioal power, heat or light,
so well as other materials loss expensive,
it is only ignorance that declares it can
never be made to supply all these, and to
telegraph around the world without wires
as well.- Dr. Loomis haa been experi?
menting with Dr. Franklin's apparatus,
the kite, and the results have led to the
formation of this company. Even at
the pseaont stage of the enterprise, it is
safe to say that Congress has given its
distinguished attention to matters much
more absurd and union, less probable of
successful consummation.
Ip you pketj dull, despondent, drowsy,
debilitated, have frequent hoadaches,
mouth tastes badly, poor appetite and
tongue coated, you are suffering from
torpid liver, or "Biliousness." Nothing
will euro you so speedily and perma?
nently as Dr. Fieroo's Qolden Medical
Discovery.
"Oan't Do Without It."?This is
what the stage and horse-oar companies,
livery-stable keepers, members of the
turf, and all grooms and trainers say of '
the Mustang Liniment. They "can't do
without it." And why?' Because it in?
fallibly reduces the external swellings, i
Sto., which, under various names, impair '
the usefulness and 'value of the king of
quadrupeds, and also because, for sprains,
strains, galls and other injuries to which
horse flesh is liable, it is the most trust?
worthy preparation in the market. Yet \
these recommendations comprise only a i
portion of its claims topublic confidence. 3
During a period of more than sixteen {
years, it has been recognized as a specific ]
for many of the most agonizing disor- i
ders which affliot the human family
such as rheumatism, gout, neuralgia, f
lumbago, tiodoloreux, aoro throat, ear?
ache, tooth-ache; and, likewise, as a
peerless .application for cuts, bruises,
burns and scalds. J 18 30 1
Extraordinary Mortality.?The 4
mortuary reports for the month of Janu- <
ary, just closed, exhibit the evidences of \
the moat extraordinary mortality in Au?
gusta?the number of deaths and inter?
ments being more than double those of
December last, and fifty-two more than
for'the corresponding month of 1872.
Up to yesterday afternoon, there were
108.interments in the oity cemeteries?
fifty -tv/o whites and fifty-six blacks. Of '
these, fourteen whites and eight blacks
diod ont'of the city?making a total of
oighty-six deaths in the oity. ? Even
daring the prevalence of tho yellow fever 1
in the oity, in 1854, there was not a single
month in which the interments equalled 1
the number reported for the past month.

Fatal Sickness at Montgomery, Ala. |
Tho Alabama papers report a fatal sick?
ness which is prevailing at Montgomery.
A large nnmber have died, among the
list three members of the Legislature
and one Senator. The disease is called
meningitis and pneumonia. PersouB
are taken with a chill and often die with?
in thirty-six hours. It is thought that
the Legislature will adjourn to Hunts
ville. Large numbers are preparing to
leavo the oity, as "the disease appears to
increase in malignity."

MORTGAGE BONDB, (only $5,000 per mile,}
at 75 cents and accrued interest, and recom?

sons, to wit:
Fibbt.?-They cannot be taxed by Tns State,
County on City. The United States Bupremo
Oourt, in tho case of the Northern Central
Railroad-us. Jackson, (boo 7 Wallace, Supreme
Court U. H , pago 207,) decidod that, when a
Railroad mortgage is a Joint one,on property
lying in two or moro btatcs, the bonds sc?
oured thereby are not liable to bo] taxed by
either of tho States; and tbo eamo principle
relieves them from taxation by County, Oily,
or Town. The Charlotte, Columbia and Au?
gusta bonds are secured by a joint mortgage
on property lying in North Carolina, South
Carolina and Georgia.
Second.?Becauso they are absolutely safe,
being secured by a lirat mortgage of only
$10,000, and a second mortgage of only $5.000
por mile on the cntiro road from Charlotte to
Augusta, and on all tho workshops, bridges,
franchise and equipment* of said road.
Tin no.?Because tho salo ot the first mort?
gage bonds will extinguish tho floating debt
of tho road, and tho prococdB of the socond
mortgago bonds will be exclusively applied
to improving tho road and adding to its
equipments; thus enhancing the value of the
property mortgaged.
HFmiiiTU?Becauso tbo bonds aro coupon
bonds, aud the interest payable in New York,
Charlotte, Columbia or Augusta, at the op?
tion of the holder. Thus th y can be col?
lected through any bank without exponso.
Fimru.?Tho business of the Road is rapidly
increasing, und tho property and franchise
daily becoming moro valuable?the net earn?

months of tbo preceding year.
Sixth ?Theao Bonds aro practically re?
deemable m gold, for apecie payment will eer
taiuly be resumed boloro their maturity. In?

?thus audiug a profit ot oveu thiuty cents
on the dollar on the First Mortgage Hands,
and ovF.BTiiiBTV-ar.ven cents on liio Second
Mortgage Bonds, and in the meantime receiv?
ing a 'high rato of interest.
Finally.?As tlicao Rondo have a fixed
value in New York, Charlotte, Columbia and
Augusta, they aro considered good collate?
