NKWSPAPRHS IN AMERICA.-The aggre
Kte number of periodical publications
the United States is now 6,432, of
vrhioh 507 are issued daily, 105 tri?
weekly, 110 sotni-weekly, 4,760 weekly,
31 bi-weekly, 19 semi-monthly, 605
monthly, 4 bi-monthly and 55 quarterly.
In the Territories, there aro issued 87,
of which 18 are daily. Thore has been
an increase since last year of 449 peri?
odicals of all kinds, chiefly weekly news?
papers. This inorease has been largely
in the North-western States. It is a
note-worthy fact that the large increase
in tho number of weeklies published has
been accompanied with a considerable
decrease in tho number of dailies, the
total number of whioh has diminished
by* 74. Alabama, Nevada and West
Virginia eaoh issne one paper less than
in 1871; Kentucky loses 2 and Missis?
sippi 4. lu Florida, Minnesota and
New Hampshire, the number is tho!
same as last year. All the other States
gain. Florida is the only Stato where
there is no daily published. The States
that issue fewer dailies than in 1871 are
Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois,
Maryland,Wisconsin, Connecticut, Geor?
gia, Oregon and Tennessee.
