A NOVEL CREW AND OAHQO.-The New York Sun has an interesting story con? cerning a singular cruft that has recently turned ap ia the East Uiver-the steam? ship Olenartney, built of iron,: 1,700 tona barden, owned by Jardine Mathew 8oo, of Oaloattn, and engaged io the j East India trade, running between Hong | Kong and Galonttn. She is commanded by Capt. Bolton. The officers aro all Englishmen, but the ship is manned by a motley crew of Chinese, Hindostauese, Bengalese, Arabs nnd Turks. The Sun says:< -'When the ship drat entered the har? bor she was literally peopled with birds and other pets. Monkeys climbed nim? bly up the rigging, and sat chattering oh the yards or hung pendant from the rat? lines. Parrots <pud oriental birds of gorgeous plumage rested on the spars and olnog to the halliards. The air that hovered about old ocean was vocal with the musio of tiny throats, und resounded to the bark of Chinese dogs. The sailors loved these pete, and made of them booa companions ia their leisure hours. The monotony of the midnight watoh was relieved by the antics of th?se little jokers, aud the dreariness of the ocean voyage was lightened by the presence of something to love and care for. But tho visitors to the ship have carried away nearly all these pets. Money seems to have as maoh influence with the Pagan of Asia os with the more civilized citi zens of New York. Dogs, birds and monkeys have nearly all disappeared, and the sailors possess in their stead greenbacks and ourrenoy, seourely hid? den in old stockings and hammocks. On the main deck, about mid-ships, stands a large irbn cage. About this scores of curious visitors are continually assem? bled. It is the home of the Chinese sheep, a species of mutton wbioh is said to be much finer than that grown in America. The animals are peculiar from the size and form of tail, and excite much curiosity. They are about the size of an ordinary American sheep. Tho body is white, the faco below the eyes being unuBually black. The tail is about a foot and a half long, and is ia the shape of a faa, flat, aad about nine inches wide at the extremity. These animals were brought out for food, and but five remain. "Stretched ont on the deck, just abaft the sheep oago, three Pekin dogs rolled lazily about. They are of a puro black color, and the hair is long and silky. The nose is long and narrow, ending in a peak, and the whole head resembles that of a wolf. Indeed, these1 animals, if come apon suddenly, might well be mistaken for the black wolf. They were securely tied to their kenaels yesterday, bat they are said to be very gentle. Another cage, which rested just under the shadow of the forecastle, had for inhabitants Ave Chinese pigs. They are yoaag aad very small, and seemed to be more cleanly than their American grototypes. The color is speckled, laok and white, and the hair, which ie bristly, covers the white spots only. The black is perfeotiy smooth, and as they lay there asleep they look more like pets than the beasts Americans sup? pose them to be. These specimens have been sent to a gentleman in New York, who, it is understood, contemplates the experiment of acclimating aud raising the species." A BATTLE BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE LABOREES-Two PERSONS KILLED.-The New York Sun gives the following de? tails of the recent trouble in Hunterdoa County, N. J: 150 black, mostly from Virginia, and over 300 white laborers, mostly Irish, were at work on a tunnel nt the new rail? road from Perth Amboy to the coal mines. On Saturday night, a party of I the whites, who wero drunk, having j been paid off the day before, assailed a party of the negroes, who had been out serenading, aad were repulsed. They procured reinforcements and renewed the attack, only to be repulsed a second time. About midnight, the whites ral? lied in considerable numbers and at? tacked the negroes, burning their build? ings. Both Bides were armed with pick? axes and other implements. Charles Coll, a white laborer, was killed during the fight. On discovering the dead body of. their comrade the next day, the Irish laborers were filled with madness, and raised a cry of revenge. They organized at 4 o'clock in the morning, arm?d with pistol/;, gimp, &o., and started in pursuit of the negroes. Coming upou tho latter suddenly they fired a volley, killing Denis Powell, negro. The negroes scattered in all directions, taking refuge in the house and out build? ings of a Mrs. Carter. Benjamin Dish man was found secreted under tho stoop. Ho was shot and dragged forth nod his brains beaten out. A third negro, named Oscar Bruce, was shot while ruoniug away, and his body was stamped almost to a jelly. The Irishmen then returned to their quarters. Nearly all the Irish ringleaders have run away. Most of the negroes have abandoned the reserved wages due them and oleared ont in terror. A German wifo living ont of Nashvillo saved her husband from a corporation floe, Saturday, by sitting oo his drunken body aud holding him in the wagoo, in spite of bis desperate efforts to escape.
