The desperation of tho Grant party in
this oity is, sinoe the Louisville fizzle,
doubly intensified. Simon Cameron
swears eternal vengeance against thoso
who, so far as this State is concerned,
managed the miserable abortion. As the
Pennsylvania role in the "Straight-out"
Convention was played by Bob Mackey,
our State Treasurer, who paid for trans?
portation, &o., and as tho election of
delegates was confided to Hassell Ewett,
Chairman Grant State Committee, these
two eminent statesmen come in for a
great amount of Cameronian anathemas.
Many of our merchants and other busi?
ness men believe that tho money paid
out so extravagantly by State Treasurer
Mackey, for the parp?se of famishing
delegates for Louisville, came from the
State Treasury, and that tho peoplo at
largo will be compelled indirectly to pay
for the Grant-Oameron Louisville experi?
ment. All agree, Grant men and Demo?
crats, that the failure of the movement
will reBalt disastrously for Hartranft. It
is apparent to the most careless observer
of political movements, that since the
adjournment of the Louisville fraud, the
Demooracy of this city and State have
been far moro energetic and determined
in their political notion than at any other
stage of the campaign. Democratic or?
ganization is everywhere being perfeotod,
and within the next fortnight vigilance
committees will bo actively at work ic
each election division in this city, for the
purpose of chocking the contemplated
fraud of the Hartranft crowd at the Oc?
tober eleotion.
The trouble that Hartranft anticipate!
is from the rural districts; there th?
honest yeomanry have been taught tc
look upon official venality as a crime no'
to be oondoned. As an evidence of thc
intensity of this feeling, the last issae o
the Vol ks freund, the leading weekly Be
publioan German paper in tho State
hauled down the names of Hartranft anc
Allen, and in doing so, stated editorially
that in obedience to the imperative de
mauds of its readers, who were hones
men, they could no longer advooato th
eleotion of candidates so notoriously cor
rupt. The Volksfreund hos an immens
circulation in the oity and County o
Lancaster, where it is published. Tb
faot ia, every intimation of coinini
events points conclusively to Buckalow
coming down to Philadelphia with
popular majority of 30,000, which wil
be increased if an honest count of th
votes of this city is given him.
Great preparations are now bein
made to made the coming Pittsburg Sol
diers' Convention a success. 100 lettei
carriers from the post o thoo in this cit
will cast aside the gray uniform and fe
the oooasion don the blue. The oaotoi
houBe will detail about fifty of its en
ployees to go to Pittsburg as "veterans;
and thus by sending there a great orow
of Government employees, nine-tentl
of whom never smelt powder, the g rea
est convention of soldiers ever yet hel
is to be made to order.
To secure the re-election of Simon Ci
meron, it becomes necessary to defei
Col. Deohert, candidato for Senator i
the First District, which is a very cloe

yard, upon condition that they will vol

only the candidate for State Senato

few days caused many who wanted tickets at
tho concert in December laat to go without
them. Some living in Louisville waited until
salOB were closed, expecting.no doubt, a post?
ponement, and then offered $15, $20, and even
#25 for tickets which the day beforo were oflor
od to purchasers at tho regular price. Others
living at a distance sent thousands of dollars
by mail and express, which got here after
sales were closed, and had to be sent back.
These disappointments need not occur again,
if tho warning now given in duo season is
heeded.
Tho drawing will begin precisely at C o'clock

Whole tickets, $10; halves, $5; quarters,
$2 50; ll whole ticketa, $100; 28 for $255; 56 for
$500; 119 for $1,000; 285 for $2,500; 575 for
$5,000. No discount on less than $100 worth
of tickets at a time.
In accordance with numerous solicitations,
arrangements have been made with all the
railroad and steamboat linos leading into the
city for the sale of round-trip ticketa, good
for six days, to all persona wno may wish to
attend the Concert or Drawing. Such tickets

All agents aro required to close sales and
mako their returns m full time to reach this
office by Thursday, September 25. To do thia
successfully, those located at great distances

All tickots to which gifts are awarded will
bo paid without discount by the Farmers' and
Drovers* Bank, either in currency, or by tight
draft upon the Fourth National Bank of New
York, at option of the holder. Tho tickets
