The freaks of lightning grow more and
more remarkable every year. Ia Alaba?
ma it strnok and killed a lady, leaving
uninjured a ghild in her arms. In tl e
same State two buzzards high up in the
air were etruok, and their flight peremp
tonally arrested. Bot tho greatest
achievement in this line yet reported oc?
curred in Tennessee, where a man was
etruok by lightning and driven into the
ground np to his neck, without being
materially injured. - Perhaps the elec?
tric fluid will open an air-line to China
yet in this way.
The year seems to be a most unusual?
ly hot one everywhere. In India the
heit has been intolerable, the thermome?
ter in stations like Seounderabad-a hot
place alwayB-marking occasionally 107
degrees, and 103 degrees, for fifteen con?
tinuous days. In Paris old residents
declare that they are grilling, and can
only live by bathing; from Brussels we
hear of 95 degrees in the shade, and in
London it has been 88 degrees, while the
waler in the public baths, without any
aid from furnaces, has been 7? degrees.
The driver of a grocery cart, who let a
basket of eggs fall, says "that truth
crashed to the earth may git ap and git,
bat he'll be dor ucl if eggs will."
Eugenie de Gaerin tells us that "con?

ance into love." Hanged if wo ever
knew that before.
Horace- Greeley is a vegetarian. Bo?
ing asked what would restore a fading
moustache to its original color, he briefly
replied, "Diet."
The "Baw Carrot," it is thought, will
be good for "Sapos," if it is well dono,
and may prove an excellent "Daly" dish.
