Last Friday, a vessel arrived at Brook? lyn, from Coba or some other of the islands contiguous thereto. On Satur? day eight large casks were removed from her hold. Each of those casks contained a dead body, and the liquor which pre? served them on the voyage was sold to a 1 wholesale dealer, and by him, it is f aid, was distributed all over the city. All at-1 tempts to discover what particular kind of liquor it was that filled thoBe eight casks proved unsuccessful. The few who are aware of the fact are sedulously endea? voring to keep the matter secret. The politicians are melancholic, the bur-tend? ers idle, and even aldermen and super vi sors are refusing to drink. One Indianapolitan has sued another Indianapolitan for 915,000 consequen? tial damages done to the former's wife by the latter's cow. Considering the ex? tremely uncertain tenure of property in wives nnder Indiana law, the sam claimed seems preposterously large. Florida ?B the only State in the Union without a daily paper. It has two tri? weeklies, one semi-weekly, twenty-one weeklies, and one monthly.
