Ordinance to Kitmbllih Board of Heal iii.
SECTION 1. Be it ordained, by the
Mayor and the Aldermen of the city of Co?
lumbia, in Council assembled. That a
Board of Health be, and the same is
hereby, established, which shall con tu at
of twelve members, to be chosen by bal?
lot by tho City Council,?at their dist
meeting in May of eaoh and every year;
and said Board Bhall be so ohoBon, that
three of them shall be elected from Ward
No. 1, three from Ward No. 2, three
from Ward No. 8, and three from Ward
No. 4, seven of whom shall constitute a
quorum; and if any person so elected a
member of the Board of Health, shall
refuse or negleot to perform the dutiee
hereafter required, he shall, upon con?
viction thereof before the City Council,
forfeit and pay tho sum of $45: Provided,
That no person shall be compelled to
serve more than one year in every three.
SEO. 2. Be it further ordained. That
the said Board of Health, of whom Bevon
shall conatituto a quorum, shall meet at
least once a /fortnight from the first day
June to the first day of November of
each and every year, and at such other
times and at auch placeB as they may
deem necessary and convenient, for the
purpose of receiving and communicat?
ing all possible information relative to
the health of the oity, and to advise and
consult together respecting the preserva?
tion of the same; and shall have full and
ample powers to adopt and carry into
effect all suoh measares, rulea and regu?
lations as they may deem necessary to the
discharge of the trust hereby confided
to them; and eaoh and every practical
physician within the city is hereby re?
quired to give immediate information of
the existenoe of any contagious or malig?
nant disease to the Board, or to any mem
-bor thereof, and at all convenient times
to aid and advise the said Board in the
preservation of the health of the oity,
and in the preservation or suppression
of contagions or malignant diseases.
SEO. 3. Be it further ordained, That it
shall be the duty of each and every
member of the said Board to causo to be
removed, from the streets within the
Ward under his or their ohargo, all of?
fensive substances or nuisances tending
to endanger the health of the oitizecs of
the city; and the Chief of Police and hie
assistants, and the Superintendent of the
Streets, are hereby required, without de?
lay, to obey all orders or precepts that
shall be given them, or either of them,
by either of the members of said Board
respecting removal of such nuisances.
SEO. 4. Be ii further ordained, Thal

hereby invested with full authority, tc
