Alex. Harris, a preacher, and one of
the most honest and respectable colored
citizens in York .County, opened the
liberal Republican campaign in South
Carolina at Rook Hill on Saturday. He
denounced Scott and the swindling
oar pet-bag Government of the State, ana
spoke in favor of conoilliation and good
feeling between the two races. He wes
followed by Mr. Jonathan MoElwee,
who spoke in his nsnal eloquent and
foroible manner. He poured hot shot
into the Radical ranks, and made some
telling hits On the party.
