AM ACT TO CHARTER THE UNION SAVINGS
BANK OF COLUMBIA, S. O.
SECTION ??, Be it enacted by the Senate
and House bf Repr?sent?t ives of (he Slate
of South Carolina, noxo met and sitting in
General Assembly, and by the authority of
the same, That S. L. Leaphart, John
Meighan, J. P. Southern, G. M. Walker,
William Glaze, Riobard Weam, W. B.
Nash, William Simons, James Davis and
George Symmers, together with such
persons as aro now, or may hereafter be,
associated with them, shall bo, and they
aro hereby, constituted and made a body
politic and corporate, by the namo and
style of the Union Savings Bank of Co?
lumbia, South Carolina, and, by that
name and styte, shall be, and is hereby,
made capable in law to have, purchase,
onjoy and retain to it and its successors,
lands, renta, tenements, gooda, chattels
and e?eota, of whatever kind or quality
soever, and the same to sell, alien or dis?
pose of; to sae and be sued, plead and
be impleaded, answer and be answered,
defend and be defended in Courts of
Record, or any other place whatsoever;
and also to make, havo and nae a com?
mon seal, and the same to break, alter
and ronow at their pleasure ; and, also,
to ordain and put in execution suoh by?
laws and regulations as may seem neces?
sary and convenient for the government
of the said corporation, not being con?
trary to the laws of this State or the
Constitution thereof.
SEO. 2. The capital stock of said cor?
poration shall not bo less than twenty
thousand dollars, whioh may be increased
from time to time to a sum not exceed?
ing five hundred thousand dollars, and
shall be paid in and accumulated as
hoi o i n a f ter pr o vi tl ed.
SEO. 3. The said corporation shall
have power and authority to invest its
capital stock, or other fonds, in bank or
other stocks, in the purchase, of bonds
of the United States, bonds issued by
this or any other State of the United
States, and in bonds of any incorporated
company, to lend money upon personal
or real security, to discount bonds, notes
and bills of exohange, and to guarantee
the payment of notes, bonds, bills of ex?
change or other evidences of debt.
SEO. 4. The said corporation shall re?
ceive deposits from any person or per?
sons, and all suoh deposits shall be in?
vested as the Board of Directors may
deem most advantageous, and in accord?
ance with Seotion 3, and interest shall
be allowed to the depositors thereof as
may bo directed or provided for by thc
by-laws of the institution.
SEO. 5. Each subscriber to stock ic
this bank shall, ou or before tho fifth
dey of each month pay, at the office ol
the bank, one dollar per share of his oi
her subscription, and any subscriber fail?
ing to do so, shall be fined five cents pei
share for suoh delinquency, and, foi
each succeeding ten days of such delin?
quency, ten cents per share additional
and if, at the expiration of two months,
such delinquency shall still exist, the
stock shall bo sold at publia auction, the
proceeds of whioh shall be paid to suet
delinquent stockholder, after deducting
all fines that may be charged ngainsl
him, and his proportion of all lossei

SEO. 6. As soon as the stock become;
of the value of one hundred dollars pc:
share, scrip shall be issued to each stock
holder for the number of shares stand
ing in his or her name, on the books o
the institution, signed by the Presiden
and Cashier, with tho corporate seal o
the bank affixed, from which time th
payment of monthly instalments shal
oe ase.
SEO. 7. Any stockholder, at any tim
prior to the stock becoming of the valu
of one hundred dollars per share, ma
withdraw from the institution, npoi
written notice being given at any regu
lar meeting of the Board of Directors
and at the expiration of ninety days, th
institution shall pay to said stockholde
the actnal value of his or her stock a
