"One of my neighbors, Mr. George
Williams, is a young' Confederate Sol?
dier, who has lost. an arm, near the
shoulder, and yet can do moro work
than a majority of young men with two
band?. I have seen him, with the as?
sistance of a small boy, load a wagon
that four oxen could with difficulty ?.-aw;
He oats hoop poles with one hand, and
with the assistance of his teeth ties .thom
into bundlos as rapidly and as well as
others with both hands. He plows his
land1 himself;' and drives' a two-horse
wood wagon, loading and nnloading it
himself. He is an honest, .bravo and
good citizen.

A little boy of Folk County, John
William Armstrong, only ten years old,
reoently picked with his own hands 91G
pounds of cotton in five days. Of this
amount, he pioked 604 pounds in three
days, and 211 pounds in one day. On
Friday night, it rained so, that ho did.
not pick on Saturday. He excelled the
best pickers in the field, leading the
other banda who competed with him. I
visited the family-found father and
xaather and all sick, and thia brave little
fellow cooked for the wholo family.
The champion conservative dwells in
Lewiston, Me. . He is seventy-one years
of age, and has never been in a railroad
oar, never put a letter in the post office
or sent a telegraphic despatch, never was
on salt water ana never attended an elec?
tion.

Ssc. 9. All bar-rooms, saloons and other
placos for the sale of liquors by retail, shall
bo closed at C o'clook ot the evening preceding
the day of auch oleotlon, and romain closed
until 6 o'clock in the morning of the day
thereafter, and during the time aforesaid, the
Bale of intoxicating liquors is prohibited.
Any person duly convicted before a competent
court of a violation of this section, shall be
punished by a duo not exceeding fifty dollars,
or by imprisonment not exceeding six months,
or by both Buoh fine and imprisonment, in
the discretion of tho court. .
