Newa, of a recent date, publishes the following-- . There ii at present living at"the Ban Gabriel Mission, an old native Califor? nian lady, whoso eyes have seen the Sassing away of several generations, he claims to be 132 years old. She was a mother at the' time the Mission Ohnroh was built-102 years ago. Her hair is as white as driven snow; bat her eye-eight is as keen as that of a ohild, and* her step as firm as that of a woman a century younger. She is an expert as a worker of embroidery, and executes the finest work without the aid of glasses. Every day, weather permitting, she may be seen in the fields or orchards near by her residence, busy at work with b?r needle. A specimen of her handiwork was exhibited in the indus? trial department of the last agricultural fair, and drew forth the admiration of all those who saw .it. Her memory is unimpaired, and she converses .viva? ciously of events of the past appertain? ing to the San Gabriel Valley-her world. She recalls withont hesitation the reminiscences of her younger days, and recounts them with evident pleasure to those who feel sufficiently interested in suoh matters as to ply her with ques? tions relating to them. In all appear? ances, the old lady gives fair promise to survive many of ns who are more than a century her junior. EXPLOSION OF A BELLOWS.-*A. singu? lar accident is recorded in the Louisville Courier-Journal A Mr. Veitch, black? smith, in that city, commenced his work early in the morning, as usual, by blow? ing a fire in the forge by means of his bellows. After pumping at the lever for some time, the ooal being well lighted and everything ready, it seems that he leaned upon the lever until all the air had escaped from the bellows, and when he relieved it of the weight, the bellows filled with the gas from the forge instead of drawing air through the valve under? neath. In an instan t the gas was ignited by the fire in the forge, and a terrific explosion occurred, which sounded like the firiug of a cannon. The bellows was toro to pieces. Several iron mis? siles lying on the concern were hurled to tho roof of the building, and a largo hammer was sent whirling dose to Mr. Veitoh'a head. AM ACT TO AMEND AN ACT ENTITLED "AN ACT TO ESTABLISH QUARANTINE AT GEORGETOWN, CHARLESTON AND HILTON HEAD." SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, now met and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That so much of Section 1 of an Aot entitled "An Act to establish quarantine at Georgetown, Charleston and Hilton Head," approved the 26th' dav of September, A. D. 1868, as pro? vides that the anoborage ground for ves? sels in quarantine, Fort of Hilton Head, shall be where it has heretofore been, is hereby repealed. BBC. 2. That said anohorage shall be, and the same is hereby, locater nt some point on the North side of Paris Island, to be designated by buoys, anchored under the direction of the Health Officers of that Port. SEO. 3. That a quarantine station shall bd established at. Saint Helena Sound, (oovering the sound and adjacent rivers,) with anoborage ground for vessels where it has heretofore been, and that a Health Officer for said station shall be appoint? ed by the Governor, who shall hold his office for a term of two years, unless sooner removed, with the same compen? sation now allowed tho Health Officers of Georgetown and Hilton Head. BKO. 4. If any person or persons em? ployed upon any vessel, railroad, expresa or other conveyance, shall receive and convey any person affected with any contagions or infectious disease, or shall receive and transport any dead body, to fay of the cities or towns located upon be ooast of this State, without permis? sion from the Health Officer of the Port of Charleston, between tho lat day ol April and the 1st day of December, such person or persons shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction, aimil be punished by a fine not exceed ing one thousand dollars, or imprison ment for a term not exceeding one year. SEO. 5. All permits issued by Healtl Officer shall be at the expense of th? vessel, * or oonveyanoe to whioh suet permits may be issued, and shall bo col leoted by the Health Officer issuing tin flame. SEO. 6. That so much of Section 29 as requires the Health Officers o Georgetown and Hilton Head to repor ? their doings to the Governor, at the en( of each month, is hereby repealed; am that the said officers, together with an; and all other Health Officers, who ma; be appointed subsequent to the pasaag ?of this Aot, shall report tho same, at th end of each month, to the Health Office of the Port of Charleston, whose duty i shall be to forward a consolidated repoi of the doings of euch officers, to tho Gc vernor of the State monthly and the Le gislature annually. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, now met and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That Benjamin Rivers, Major Solomon and Chisholm Ford, under the name and style of the "Willtown Na tiona! Guards, of Colleton County," they and their successors and associates in office, Le, and they are hereby, in? corporated, and made and declared a body politio and corporate, in deed and in law, and, as such body politic, shall have power to UBO and keep a common sea), tho same at will to alter; to make all necessary by-laws, not repugnant to the laws of tho land, and to have suc? cession of officers and members, con? formable to such by-laws; to suo and bo sued, plead and be impleaded, in any oonrt of competent jurisdiction in this State; and to have, uso and enjoy all other rights, and be subject to all other liabilities, incident to bodies corpo rate.
