In the stock board; to-day, a motion
to donate $20,000 to the sufferers by the
fire at Chicago, was referred to the go?
verning committee, with power to in?

carried unanimously. It is reported
three heavy bouses have failed. Stocks
are greatly depressed, with a decline in
the whole list. The Western stocks aro
not called in the board to-day.

the Company Lore. Gen. Stager states
that a fire started in a small house on
Thirty-first street, in the South division,
in the afternoon, but was speedily extin?
guished. Incendiaries were busy, but
seven or eight had been bunged or shot
at sight.
The Spectator, an insurance journal,
says none of the leadingcorporations aro
insolvent. A number of tho less promi?
nent have sunk all their cupital, but tho
failure of every ono of these will neither
cnuBe a panio nor seriously affect the
general progress of i usu rance. A great
majority of tho companion will pay losses
promptly. Some have already begun to
put their assets in order to liquidate ob?
