About tbreo months ago, a young fel?
low went into a Lowell fuotory, and
offered to marry the girl who could jump
the highest. Tho 200 girls there em?
ployed at onoe began the Bpring-board
ezoroise, and they have been jumping
ever since. Some of them have come to
equal Mark Twain's jumping frog, but
the wiBbed-for man fails to put in an ap?
pearance.
A Bassian engineer, named Pobieki,
reoontly ran his locomotive 100 miles,
using naptha for fuel, and found that by
so doing he saved fifty per oent. in
weight and muoh more in cont of fuel.
In Germany, the harbors have struck
for five couts for hair-cutting, and two
and a half cents for Bhaving. They are
now reoeiving three and a half cents and
one and a half conta respectively.
A house-holder in Florida, in filling
up his census schedule, under tho bead?
ing "where born," described one of bis
ohildren as "born in the parlor," and
the other "up Btairs." A striot return.
A lady in London got the idea into her
head that tho devil was in her, and hung
herself. If the women go to hanging
themselves for a little .thing like that,
they're going to be scarce, that's all.

handsome and. bowitobing, lately applied
to a lawyer to procure a divorce from
her husband, on the ground that sho
oould do better.
