Assistance waa callod, and ' wheo, the man was carried to jail, a mob of negroes assembled for the purpose of releaoi?g bim. After several hours of unavailing efforts to disperse the orowd, on the part of the Mayor," the military were called out, and the sheriff reud the riot Act twice. Stones were thrown by the negroes, one of which struck the ' Mayor. The military were then ordered to oharge bayonets. One Andrew Jaokson-a violent and disorderly negro -was bayonoted, while obstructing thc ndvance of the platoon. Two police1 men were seriously hurt. The-negroes are assembling iu largt numbers in tho lower part of the town, and more trouble is apprehended.
