of a now paper just issued in Hew York,
tho first number. of which has boon
plaoed upon oar desk. IQ the salutatory

ern States of the Union, and to tho de?
velopment of their best interests, in a
material point of view, having nothing
whatever to do with party politios. We
shall labor to set forth olearly and fully
all tho advantages which all these States
possess, and whioh reader thurn pre-em?
inently tho most valuable and desirable
portions of thia wonderful country.
There is no equal area of tho earth's sur?
face upon whioh has boen bestowed moro
beautiful gifts of soil, olimato, minerals,
forests, animals and vegetables. Its soil
is the most prolific, its climate the most
salubrious, its minerals the most valua?
ble, its forests tho grandest, its animal
and vegetable productions tho most va?
ried and luxuriant, its rivers the largest,
its flowers tho sweetest, ita skies the
brightest. It has an unlimited acreage
of the riohest lands; inexhaustible beds
pf the finest oren of iron, of marble, and
of coal; and innumerable Bites for the
ereotion of factories. It needs that these
foots should be brought prominently and
continuously before the people of this
oonntry and of Europe? in order thal
they may know something definitely and
p rao tic ally of this almost terra incognita.
If we can aid in doing this, we shall ac
complisb onr work. The papers of thc
South, busied as they are with politico
issues and local affairs, have not tin
time, even if they could devoto the spnet
neoessary to a fall consid?r?t!on of thea*
