ISohool Distriot to be educated; and for
tho purpose of keeping np tho schools

Trustoes be authorized, (under the Act
of tho Legislature dofiuing their duties
and powers,) to make a tax assessment

windows and doors were hurled from
their fastenings for blocks around, and
houses rocked to aud fro to suoh au ex?
tent that their occupants, wild with ter?
ror, dash od into the street and sought
safety in flight. The groat explosion
was followed by a rattle, as of Bmall
arms, caasod by unexploded torpedoes
falling upon tho street on their return

tent of tho disaster was revealed. The

Tho boxes, with their contents, had ut?
terly disappeared, only a few pieces of
the truck remained, tho street for four
blocks was strewn with fragments torn
from tho neighboring buildings, aud all
in tho vicinity was a wreck. Tho toys
which caused this disaster aro hollow
globes of clay filled with a very power?
ful dotomiling mixture, said to contain
nitro-glycerine. Their salo hod boon
prohibited before this accident.
TUE HEALTH OP CHARLESTON.-A
meeting of tho presidents of the com?
mittees of citizens appointed to visit
tho various wards in the city, was held,
yesterday morning. They reported that
every word had boen iuspooted, eaoh lot

Mayor the result of their operations, as
follows:
The reports from the various wards show
the city to bo in a remarkably healthy
condition, even when compared with
years iu which no yellow fever existed.
Tho number of cases of yellow fover,
now in course of treatment, does not ex?
ceed an average of two in each ward,
and the number of persons sick from
other cause J is astonishingly few.

visited every bolo and corner in Charles?
ton. They aro confident that there are
not mor? than sixteen cases of yellow
fever in the whole city; and we may ex
