comprehended the diguity and duties of ]

A HURRICANE OF STONES.-In Zarate,
a oity of the Argentino Republic, there
happened, on the 8th of June lust, a
frightful hurricane of stones. The Cor?
dova Prensa describes it UH follows:
It was about half-past 1 A. M., the at?
mosphere without the slightest breeze,
and suffocating; tho clouds went on
slowly accumulating in great masses in
tho West; 5 A. M. struck, when a dull
yet frightful sound wos heard fur off to
tho Westward. A minuta afterwards the
storm broke in an awful form. It begun
with a sound like thq discharge of heavy
artillery, with lightning. The Pampero
wind swept over with unusual violence
aud fury, bringing with it a cloud of
stones, such a? never had been seen be?

eggs, fell everywhere, very few being as

and roofs of all sorbs suffered terribly;

organize a meeting, for tho purpose of
devising moans for rescuing tho woman.
After a spirited debate, M. A. Arnold
was elected chairman; and on taking his
seat, Mr. Arnold not ouly thanked the
meeting very warmly for the compli?
ment offered him, but made a loug
speech, in which he discussed tho tariff',
the coal product for 1871, aud tho Ala?
bama claims. A scries of resolutions
was then offered, and, after u prolonged
discussion, and the acceptance of seve?
ral amendments, they were passed.
They embraced a protest ngaiust tho
depth of Crow Creek, regrets that all
women wero not taught to swim, und a
resolve to rescue tho particular woman
who had fallen overboard. A committt o
