ED DENOUMENT.-Living near the Park ?B a family consisting of a young gentle? man, his wifo and little daughter. Whilo walking noar tho statue of tho illustrious Benton, the other day, the mother was surprised at hearing her little girl exclaim in joyful ecstaoy: "Oh, papal Mamma, here's papal" and at tho samo time going as fast us her little feet would carry her towards a gentleman seated on thegra?s, j under the shade of tho statue. With his back toward the lady, he did resem? ble her hnsband very much, and she was really greatly pleasod to find him teated there, apparently much interested in a morning paper. Imagino hor surprise when, upon addressing him, she found that the gentleman was an entire stranger | to her. Abashed, completely confused, she vainly endeavored to find words for an apology, bnt her speech utterly failed her. The gentleman, however, gallantly came to the reaoue, and assured her that no harm had been done. While this little episode was transpir? ing in the Park, what was tho husband ' doing? Going to his place of business, this morning, he met a friend there, who, with what intent wo.know not, casually] remarked to him that ho met his (the merchant's) wife in the Park, and play? fully snggested that suoh a thing might | bo that abo found something of rare en? joyment there, or else she wonald not go so often. Being n little inclined towards a jealous disposition, he thought be could spare time to just'ran ap there, surprise his wife, and ran back again, at the same time, satisfying himself about his friend's suggestion. He drove to the Park, leaped from' his carriage, and harried on'thron gb the avenues in search of his dear ones. Sitting at the foot of tho monument j was MB wife, and at his feet a gentleman who was a perfect stranger to him, cares? sing and chatting with his child. With a cry of rage and despair, he sprang I npon the supposed invader of bia family j peace, seized him by the throat and pre? sented a revolver at his breast. The! wife, innocent of any wrong, retained I wonderfully her presence of mind, and begged, plead and implored him to await | an explanation. Upon the stranger giv? ing his name, the host started with a seeming nervousness, and instantly asked his father's given name. It was famished. The husband raised upon his ] feet/and, in an excited manner, and ap? parently laboring under great excite? ment, looked the guest squarely in tho face and asked his mother's ?amo. Upon the announcement of her nama tho hus? band fell, with a cry of joy, upon the neck of the stranger, crying, "Brotherl brother I" It was iudeed his long-lost brother, whom he bad beon separated from nineo childhood, and save for sober second thought he would have murdered, and, at the same time, blasted the future of himself and family. In boyhood they had lived in an Eastern home, and one, seized with the spirit of adventure, went to the Pacific coast, failed to write home, and became as it were dead to the family.
