1871, amounted to sixty-four, carrying
the same number of rorouauts, 3,000,001
letters, a large number of official de
apatohes, 351 carrier pigeons, and nine
ty-one passengers. Of these sixty-iou
balloons, only five were captured by th
German forces, two were blown ont ti
sea, and one crossed tho North Sea, ant
after a perilous voyage of about 1,00
miles, in forty-eight hours, landed ii
