passed between him and the Evangelical

Russia; that ho could permit no foreign
intervention whatever, and that the Rus?
sian Government could not tolerate a
shadow of intervention,. from whatever
Bide it crime. The missionaries ex?
pressed their respectful regret. He. ac?
cepted the address of the American dele?
gation, to hand to the Emperor. The
address of the Swiss delegation to the
Emperor, whioh was written in London,
he decidedly refused to accept. He then
explained that it might seem invidious
to only acoept the address of the Ameri?
can delegation, and requested them to
withdraw it, whioh they did.
The House of Commons, by a majori?
ty of fifty-two, sustained the course of
the Government in preventing the
Phoenix Park, Dablin, meeting.
The great lambs' wool spinning factory
at .Leicester was burned. Several were
killed by the falling walls.
An unknown yacht capsized, and six
persons were drowned.

given to the French deputation, to night,
the Lord Mayor proposed as a toast
"The Queen," whioh was reoeived with
storms of hisses, lasting for several

BERLIN, August 18.-Cholera has ap?
peared in the neighborhood of Stettin.
The disease continues its ravages at Ko
nigsburg, where, on Tuesday, there were
seventy new oases and thirty-four deaths;
and. on Wednesday, eighty new cases
and twenty-seven deaths.

JACKSON, August 17.-Tho premium
list of the State Fair has been issued,
filled with liberal premiums in all de?
partments of agriculture and commerce.
There are several thousand dollars in pre?
miums on cotton and other products.
There are liberal premiums for blooded
horses, and the Jookey Club Association
have liberal prizes offered for stock. Tho
Fair commences an the 23d of October,
and continues one week.
A few nights past, au armed mob of
negroes, to the number of forty or fifty,
at Holly Springs, took a negro, named
Horaoe Washington, from his dwelling
and murdered him. The jury of inquest
charge one George Jaokson as being tho
leader of the mob. Most of the parties
have been arrested.
SAN FRANCISCO, August 17.-The Tax
Payers' Convention nominated a full
municipal ticket, headed by Wm. Alvord
for Mayor. The Democrats already
have a field ticket, and some dissatisfied
Republicana propose to nominate a full
ticket.

It seems that,Brigham Young bas
been shamefully abased nud misrepre?
sented. Malicious people have grossly
exaggerated the sise of this estimable
gentleman's family, which we are assured
now consists only of sixteen wives ned
forty-eight children. Death invaded his
household lately, and robbed him of one
of the partners of his joys and sorrow?.
She died leaving a husband and a
large family of sixteen wives and forty
eight children to mourn her untimely
loss. Brigham has just passed his
seventieth birth-day, but as there is at
least one well-spring of pleasure left, let
us hope that the family of Young will
still continue to increase and fructify.
COMMENCING EARLY.-The youngest]

operation. It has been discovered that I
the officers of the police court of the
District of Columbia have recently been
using their power and their information
in wringing large fines and compromises
from the unfortunate women of that ter?
