twenty miles,from the Healing Springs,
in tho Allegheny Mountains, there lives
a most remarkable woman. Her name
is Morrison, but she is known all through
this ootintry- by her maiden name of
"Misa Jennie Racker." Sho is about
sixty years of age, has her hair bobbed
like a man's, wears a man's hat, and rides
a horse astride. Hunting is her means
of livelihood, and she kills deer, bear
and other gam? with the skill of forty
years' experience. Not long since she
wounded a 'doer, but before coming np
with it another hunter-a man-had
gotten to' it and commenced carving it
ap. The old lady expostulated with no'
avail, sud finally drew a bead on him
with her rifle' to enforce her "rights."
The - fellow jumped behind a tree, bat
left his heel exposed, at which vulnerable

her deer.- She has nine or ten children,

The following anecdote hos been asso?
ciated with tho name of a well-known
clergyman's helpmate .in the North of
England. The minister had been enter?
taining at dinner a clerical friend from
some distance. The ovoning was unpro?
pitious, and the friend was invited by
the minister to remain during.the hight,
and he aooepted the invitation. They
walked together for some time in the
manse gardens. At dusk the minister
asked his visitor tb step into the manse,
while he would give directions to his
man-servant to get his friend's convey?
ance ready in the morning. As the
stranger entered the manse, the minis?
ter's wifo mistook bim for her tmaban*
in the twilight; she raised the pulpit
Bible, which chanced to be on the lobby

across tho stranger's shoulders, exclaim?

that ugly wretch to stay all night."
It is noted, says the Macon Telegraph,
