Richardson, colored, of Clarke Couuty,

About 1 o'clock ou the night naen
tioued, a baud of negroes, supposed to
be nonie ton' or twelve in number, came
to his promises, and first mode an attack
upon the store-room, iu whioh a little
boy waa sleeping. Tho little fellow, be?
coming frightened, rim out, and was
fired upon, butibrtunntcly escaped with?
out injury. They then made un attack
upon tho dwelling house, in which they
found Mrs, Scutt, her two children and
her mother. Her mother fled from the
house, and was fired upon without efieot.
Entering, they demanded money of Mrs.
J Scott, or information us to the place iu
which it was kept. Mrs. Scott refusing
to tell, they proceudod tu search the
room, breaking in pieces a splendid bu?
reau and smashing things generally, amid
oaths aud all mnuner of foul language
Failing in their search, they returned to
Mrs. Scott, dragged her from her bed by
the bair of her head, fired pistols around
her person, and finally presented them at
her bosom and swore that sho must cither
tell or die. She wan still firm. They
then carried her daughter through tho
same ordeal, with like result. Seizing
upou a little son, they held him up by
the hair of tho head aud swore if hu did
not toll them where they could find the
money they would cut his throat from
uar tu ear. lu hi? fright the child refer?
red them to a certain trunk, where they
found and took some $300 in gold aud
silver-mostly gold.
All this tvnH done amid the most hor?
rid oaths jual abusive language. After

room, where they obtained somo $20
more, and were ouly prevented from
sacking it by the gathering of the neigh?
bors, who had been awakened by the
firing and the shouting to the distance of
a mile or morn.
Thu proper affidavit was made before
Trial Justice Lark, who issued a warrant
and has already arrested aud lodged iu
jail at this placo three of tho .guilty party
-Squire Jackson, Charles Chinty and
Goorge Smith. Tho Trial Justice aud
his officer aro in hot pursuit of tho
others, and, in a short time, expects to
have thu entire baud'of outlaws under
the power of the law.
