which Mr. Greeley s??med to dwell with

sation, Mr. Greeley again spoke of the
Blairs,, and especially of the seniors of
that distinguished family, remarking .en
passant that Frank P. Blair, Jr., and
others of tho present generation, did uot
do justice to the bid stock, to whom ho
referred with apparent deep feeling. Mr.
Greeley then passed on to subjects nearer
homo, and finally dwelt for several
minutes on the memory of General Quit
man, pf whom ho spoke as a warm per
soual aud political friend in times gone
by. Not a word was said on either Bide,
that our reporter could overhear, con?
cerning Mr. Davis' condition and pros?
pects. All through the interview, which
lasted tcu minutes,. Mr. Davis main?
tained a very reserved demeanor, while
on tho other hand, the faoe of the phi?
losopher was ,wreathed in kindness aud
smiles, with occasionally a hearty laugh
breakiug the stillness.
It was a scone worthy the pencil of au
artist, one that would make a picture
valuable now and in future generations.
Rising at the concludion of thu interview,
Mr. Davis withdrew with a stately bow,
and ia a few minutes after, Mr. Greeley
was en route for the railroad depot, where
he took the 12.45 train for Louisville,
accompanied,'by General Merritt, his
friend and traveling companion.

deo, of Tallahassee, Florida, for twenty
years, and until reoently, when be re.
signed, an officer of the regular army,
and a man pf conanioiinus sonml position
and large wealth, died in the Tombs, on
Sunday night, in a fit of delirium, after
having been committed to a cell on a
ohorge of larceny. It appears that a
few weeks ago, General Mundee left his
home to attend tho re-union of the Army
of the Potomac, at Boston. He after?
wards came to this city, and visited,
among others, Generals Wright, Newton
and Hamilton, who had formerly served
with him. He subsequently (probably
while suffering from temponry insanity)
bought, for $250, n partnership in a low
drinking ealoon,. No. 110 West street,
and sat daily behind the bar, although
ho took no active part'in the business.
On Friday;'his .bar'-keeper was arrested,'
on a charge of stealing from a customer,
and on the following day General Man?
d?e was also arrested, as a confederate,
and locked up. Gu ?Saturday evening,
he waa seized with convulsions, and died
in two boura. The body will be for?
warded to Florida, by Generals Newton,
Wright, Shalcr and Hamilton. General
Mundoo leaves a wife and six children.
General William F. (Baldy) Smith will
take charge of the body after the inquest,
and forward it to bin family.

ANOTHER KEROSENE EXPLOSION.
About 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon,
Mrs. Bridget Sweeney, who is staying
with Mrs. Cokely, in Columbus street,
between Nassau and Meeting,- was se?
verely burned by the accidental explo?
sion of a can of kerosene oil. She was
engaged in kindling a Aro, for the pur?
pose of irouing, and had poured some
k orono no oil fever the wood. Striking a
mateb, she applied it to the wood, still
holding the can of oil in her hand: The
llamo ignited quickly, und communi?
cating to thc eau of oil, a terrible explo?
sion ensued. In a moment, the nu for?
tunato woman waa enveloped in flames;
whioh was only extinguished after her
clothing was entirely consumed, and she
had been terribly burned from her waist
down to her feet". Mrs. Cokely, in as?
sisting her, also had her arm and band
slightly burued. A prominent surgeon
was sent for, and tho sufferer reoeived
every nssistunoe. She is now in a critical
situation, and it lu doubtful whether she

HIGH-HANDED OUTRAGE.-On Sunday
night last, Mr. Joseph W. Hair, while
on his way homo from his fathor'a
house, near Minis', was seized by two
ruffians, who attempted to stab him,
cutting through ono of his suspenders
and shirt with a knife, air. Hair had
nothing with whioh to defend himself
bnt a knife.- whioh ho drew, und, it is
supposed, stubbed ono of them with,
causing him to relax his hold. Mr. Hair
then fled, dud was fired ut, but fortu?
nately the ball did not take effect. Our
informant states that they were strange

Grand Master in tho Chair. The reports
showed an addition of $3,000 to the
fund-$22,000 raised. It behooves our

in this matter, or else tho Columbians

go to work if he apprehended any
(langer. But hope and courage, and
thu pressing necessities of their family,
overcame her iutontioo, .and she let
him go. Shu stood iu the door and
watched him on his way to the fatal
pit. When nt a point where hu turned
out of her sight, be paused and cast a
wistful look toward his home ned little
ones, and, seeing bis wife, waved with
his band a last adieu. He parted with
his loved ones forever.
. THE MILITIA ARMS,-It will be remem?
bered that a committee of gentlemen,
representing a large publio meeting of
the citizens of this County, waited npon
Governor Scott about two months ago,
and requested, among other things, the
removal of the arms in the possession of
the militia to Columbia. Tbe Governor
assured the committee, with every con?
sideration of respect, that their requests
would be immediately granted, and that
he would instruct (Jen. Anderson to send
au officer ut once to this County, with
authority to collect' them up. Mr. R.
W. Cousart, .tiding under authority,
published a notice a few weeks ago call?
ing in tue anns, but one o? tue compa?
nies refused to deliver up. We have
just learned from those who have the
best right to know, that at the time they
were ordered to deliver them np they
were advised by tho same party to dis?
obey the order; and, also, that about two
weeks ago, each member of the Wax haw

that there is ammunition fur these guns.
