any house or houses shall havo been burned or torn down, situated
near any public street or alloy, shall bc enclosed by the owner by a
.substantial fence or railing; and iii case tho owner or owners of any
such cellar or pit shall neglect or refuse to do so, after due notice,
tho Chief of Police, or any of his assistants, shall causo the same to
bc enclosed at the expense of such owner or owners.
SEC. 5. lie it f urther ordained, That all sturdy beggars wandering
in thc streets of Columbia, after duo notice to lcavo tho city, and
neglect or refusal to do so, shall be arrested and confined in thc
. guard house, or placed at such hard labor as thc Mayor or any two
of tho Aldermen may direct.
SEC. G. lie it further ordained, That this ordinance shall take
effect from and after tho ratification thereof.

of Columbia, in Council assembled, That from and after tho passing
of this ordinance, any person who shall fire or discharge any gun,
pistol, or other small arms, cracker, sky rocket, or explosive and
noisy substance or thing, calculated to injure persons or property,
or frighten horses, within thc corporato limits of the city of Colum?
bia, shall bo. subject to a penalty not exceeding twenty dollars for
each and every offence; and any gun, pistol, or other small arms so
discharged by ?ny minor or disorderly person, having no ostensible
proper ty to pay the penalty aforesaid, may be seized by tho Mayor
or : ny ono of tho Aldermen or police who shall seo such person so
offending against this'ordinance; arid in caso the person so offend?
ing shall not, within ton days after conviction, pay thc penalty
imposed, and tho costs of thc prosecution, such gun, pistol, or other
small arms shall bo sold to discharge thc said penalty and costs:
Provided, That nothing herein contained shall extend to prohibit or
restrain military parades, police duty, or any other duty enjoined by
law, the shooting of any mad dog, or other dangerous animal.

SECTION 1. He it ordained, by the Mayor and Aldermen of thc City
rf Columbia, in Conned astnnhh-d, That from and after thc passage
and promulgation of this ordinance, any merchant, shop keeper or
vender of wine, spirituous or malt liquors, in any quantity, either
under a tavern or retail license, who Bindi keep his, lier or their
store, shop,bar room, or saloon open for the transaction of business
on tho Sabbath day, shall bo subject to a penalty of not. moro than
forty-live dollars, nor less than twenty dollars, at thc discretion of
the City Council of Columbia, for each and every violation of this
ordinance. . \
SEC. 2. And be it further ordained, That any person who shall
publicly work or labor, or employ any othor person to do so, on the
Sabbath day, (except in cases of emergency,) shall be subject to n*
penalty of ten dollars for each and every offence.
SEC. 3. He il further ordained, That this ordinance shall take
effect from and after its ratification, and that all ordinances and
parts of ordinances, repugnant to this ordinance, be, and aro hereby,
repealed.
