SWEAHINO.--The most truthful and straightforward article on this disgusting habit that we have ever read is the fol lowing, whose author's Darno we are not acquainted with: "It is no mark of a gentlemun to swear. The most worthless and vile, tho refuse of mankind, thc drunkard aud the prostitute, swear as well aa the beat dressed and educated gentleman. No particular endowments aro requisite to give a finish to tho art of cursing. The basest aud meanest of mankind swear with as much tact and skill as tho most refined ; and ho that wishes to degrade' himself to tho very lowest level of pollution and shame, should learn to bo a oommoa swearer. Any man has talents enough to learn to curse God, and imprecate perdition on fellow-men. Profane swearing never did i y man. any geed. . No man is tho richer, or wiser, or happier for it. It helps no man's education or manners. It is disgusting to the refined, abomina? ble to the good, degrading to the mind, unprofitable, needless, and injurious to society. Wantonly to profane His name, to call His vengeance, is- perhaps of all offences the' most awful in the sight of God." The lato Prof, Wm. Gibson nsed to ro?ate that while going through the ward of a hospital with Velpeau, that surgeon brought him to the bedside of. two mou who were nuder treatment for some slight frnoture. "Would you believe it," said Velpeau, "these men have mado a living for tho last fifteen years by be? ing knocked down and run over. When they seo a light wagon driveu by some wealthy person .coming by, they step across tho street, and ure sure to be rmi over, picked up, aud carried to some hospital, and then sue for damages. When their money becomes exhausted, tboy bogiu again. Nearly every bono ju their bodies hus been broken." Lippmsn'b Muter* are mr nain hy all drug (/int* HIKI dualer*. .
