had their doors open to have me, aud
there was gravy and welkum.

people made some ouss of a mistake
or another over his name, I bet, or else
they'd noyer ba' took this one.

and I left without a word, after serving
'em both out pleasant-like. It was liko
this. I'd had a bit of the toughest old
steak I ever did stick .teeth in since I
chawed caoutoh?uo ac school, and got
leathered for it; and after I'd been puz?
zling my teeth with that bit o' steak for
half an hour, who should oomo in but
Shimel; aud the fust thing bo does is to
hang bia greatcoat over the rail where I
waB sitting, knock down my felt hat,
and then laugh; fleeting-like, at me. I
never soys nothing; but that there was
tougher than the. steak, and I couldn't
swallor it a bit; but there I sits with that
ooat touching of me, and the waiter
half grinning at mo to see mo so uncom?
fortable, "I reckon I'd like to chaw tho
oonple on yer up," I thinks to myself;
and then, somehow, whilo I was a

as if he wanted to get rid of it, and the
waiter being right in tho way, it bit him
on his nose, and down ho went, but only

and for about five minutes they were, at
it hard, till them as looked on thought

The examination bas resulted in tho conclu
sion that the ?ample contained m> poiaonouo
or harmful admixture I havo been unable
to discover any trace of the deleterious sub
BtanooB which aro sometimes employed in the
adulteration of liquors. I would not hesitate
to uso myself, nor to recommend to others, I
for medicinal purposes, the "Schiedam
Schnapps," aa an excellent and nnobjeptiona
