driven by the troops behind Nenilly
Bridge, which they barricaded. The
shells demolished the barricades, when
the Communists suffered heavily in at?

nists "continue the reign of terror in
Paris and the neighborhood. The indig?
nities heaped upon religion have shocked
all the decent portions of the community.
There is a war against the priests, and it
is not safe for ono to be seen in Paris.
All .hopes are on McMahon. ' The Go?
vernment troops maintain the positions
captured from the insurgents yesterday.
No new attack has been made by either
party, and there is a strong desire among
the more substantial oitizens to see Paris
again re-ocoupied by the Germans. Tho
loss in the battles yesterday, on both
sides, is quite as large as mentioned in
previous despatches. The conduct of
the 'Government troops at Avenue
D'Nouilly was most heroic. They never
faltered a moment daring the rain of
shells and heavy firing. Their loss is
great, but the success was complete.
.The Communists sinoe the battle have
committed ? the wildest exe os s es, and
butchered the prisoners they held. The

nication with Paris is kept up only with
