AM it is requisite in Prussia to have the
consent of the King for tbe marriage of

Government has issued an order cancel
ling all these marriages, and making
them null and void. With the Luther?
ans marriage is a civil ceremony, but if
the contracting parties are Roman Catho?
lics, with whom murringo is regarded as
a sacrament, it is not easy to Bee how
these unions can be annulled. Deputy
Hagen hos moved an inquiry in the
Prussian Chambers on the subject.
Great indignation is expressed at the
Government decree, which is based on
the plea of a forgotten order in council.
Those who consider the application of it
to army officers justifiable, complain
that those to whom the law is now ap?
plied are officers of the reserve and land?
wehr, who are soldiers only for the du?
ration of the war, and otherwise civil?
ians. Many of them are dead, and their
wives and expected children are thus un?
justly branded with dishonor. The mi?
nisters declined the discussion for the
present, the war minister having desired
to instruct a special commissary to rep?
resent his interests. The war minister
is gradually falling into disgrace by re?
peatedly stretching his official authority
to unwarrantable lengths, suppressing
liberal papers, advocating a "?late o?
war" in Prussia, though the "state of
war" has ceased in Franco, and lastly,
bat certainly not least, by HUH cruel and
unjustifiable decree against officers' mar?
riages.
Extreme stinginess is ground for di?
vorce in Germany.
