North-east of LaGraugo, in Troupe
County, and swept with awful destruc?

Whilst its greatest intensity was only
felt for three-quarters of a milo, people
living at n much grenier distance, more
or less, felt its violence. Tho citizens ol
LaGrange, four or five miles off, were in
grent alarm, hut their residences and
other property sustained no material
damage.
Tho first great damage sustained was
upon thc plantation of James Daniels, in
Troupe County, where not one pnnnel of
fence, houso, tree, or even small sap?
ling, was to be found standing yesterday
morning.
Passing on in its terrible course, it
next struck tho residence of widow
McGhee, and literally leveled everything
to tho ground.
Here, at this plantation, it assumed
sublimely awful proportions. It WUH
fun ucl shaped, and in addition to liftiug
tho largest trees of the forest and all of
Mrs. McG'tce's houses high in the mid?
night air, was accompanied with fiery
tresses of lightuiug and tho loudest peals
of Heaven's artillery 1 Here, too, the
destruction was simply complete. Abso?
lutely nothing was left standing above
ground.
Tho storm, or this uwful cyclone,
passed on. Tho next plantation in its
path was that of Mrs. Jones. Then it
struck tho straggling little village of
Mountville, laying everything in waste
as it went ou.
Tho plantations of Nathaniel Sledge,
William Sony and James Bird, fell di?
rectly in its path. Mr. Bird lives on thc
lino of Troupe and Merri wether County.

none of its violeuce, when hist heard
from.
