Those who cannot at? tend, will please send the annual sub? scription of 'membership of one dollar, or a donation of auy amount. The most scrupulous may be perfectly assured, that here their money will be put to good account. It is for tho relief of the sick poor alone-for those, who, for a time, . are disabled by disease from work, that th? moans of this charity aro applied. In order to make this work of benevo? lence more systematic and efficient, a visiting committee of ladies is appoiuted for each ward of tho city, for tho per? sonal distribution of needed supplies for the sick poor, while our physicians and pastors are requested to report to them such cases ns may como within their special cognizance Struugers who may bo in tho placo and not desiring to be? come annual members, nro invited to Bend in donations, which will be grate? fully received by the Treasurer. EDITOR: I desire, through your columns, to call public atteutiou to an incident relative to the way in which the Greenville and Columbia and the Bine Ridgo Railroad Companies, at present, manngu their freights. I cannot say that both of the abovo mentioned roads are at fault, but it is evident that ono of them is being grossly mismanaged. On tho 17th instant a mercantile firm a Ut li is place received an invoice of a quantity ' of'corn and venison hams, and, nt thq same time, a railroad receipt, showing that they had been deposited in tko depot at Walhalla. It is now ten days since the above were received, and no tidings of the goods, ns yet, como to hand. Goods ordered from New York and Baltimore, about* tho same time, havo arrived safely. Where lies the fault? Whero aro tho goods? They must havo fallen asleep while tn transitu, and forgotten their destination. Will somo of tho smart business (?) men, who now have these railroads in charge, give . ns some light on this matter? I have been always taught that tact aud push were the true philosopher's stone foi business men.
