We, your constituents, have looked and listened in vain to hear any remonstrance from you, or any exertion, on your part, to stop the flood tide of corruption or tho lavish expenditure of the publio money. You are aware of our poverty, und also of the hard struggle wo huvo had to make to pay the onerous and burden? some amount of our taxes for the past year. You know that many of wo color? ed people have had to sell tho last pig to pay the same, which wo have cheerfully done, with the promise that tho tuxes another year would bo rcdueed. From the published proceedings of your body we learn that they will be increased. Now, we call upon yon to fullill thc promises made to get our votes; nud wo now notify you that forbearance censos longer to be a virtue; and we give you lair notice, that wo shall refuse longor to BU ?mit to such sobornes us are beiug need, if not with your connivance ut least "with your consent. Levy is published by request: To THE EDITOR OF run UNION: lam B?ro it is because yon "know nothing about the nature of tho accounts," be? fore the Houso on Tuesday, that you re? gard the reference of them to a special committee as n matter of no impor? tance. Pending tho discussion in the House, it may bo as well to observe something of a respectful reticence in your columns; but ir can do no harm to state, that tho accounts in question are reported to amount to between $200,01)0 and $300,000; that the articles embraced in these accounts ure not only charged at enormous prices, but many of them ?were not required for use nt tho capitol, and never have becu used there; and that the whole business luis been trans? acted from the beginuing without war? rant and without authority. Your remark that "the Houso has its regular committees, to whom all such accounts ought to be referred," would be just, ns a general proposition; but is believed to bo not just in this particular case. If these accounts were retorted to a regular committee, they would be referred, as a matter of course, to the Committee on Contingent Accounts; but what would bethe propriety of referring these accounts to that committee, when the chairman of thal committee in alleged to be the main parti/ to these accounts?
