The Empress announced that she had receiv? ed a message in cypher from the Empe? ror, confirming the news of the surren? der of the army and the captivity of his Majesty. After nu animated discussion, the Empress was advised by a member of the council to immediately convoke a meeting of the officers of the Paris gar? rison in the court-yard of the palace, to tell them what bad happened, and ask for an assurance of their support. The Empress replied thnt she did not doubt the appeal would bc loyally responded to, but she would not, for tho sake of the Emperor or tho Regency, or the dy? nasty, suffer a drop of blood to bo shed in civil strife. During her exile, her Majesty has striotly maintained tho same impassive attitude. She has constantly rejeoted every proposal to interfere in the affairs of'France. She has lived in completo privacy, and, so far from in? truding herself on public attention, has successfully striven to keep her name out of the papers. The accounts that have appeared of her Majesty's intrigues and negotiations for the restoration of the imperial power, are absolutely and en? tirely without foundation. The resolu? tion adopted on the 4th of September, not, in time of war and invasion, to in? cur the risk of civil discord, has never been violated in thonght or deed.' " A brother editor wants an almanac that will tell him when "next month" expires. The cause of this "want," the editor says, is because he has a number of accounts, the payment of which was promised next mooth, and os the pro? mises were made in February last, he wants the almanac to ascertain when he may expect the fulfillment of said pro? mises, yon know.
