stand fully tho course that ought to be pur?
sued to restore a tolerably bad case of diseased
lungs to healthy soundness. The first and
moat important step is for the patient to
avoid taking cold, and tho best of all places
on thia continent for this pnrposo in winter,
is Florida, woll down in tho State, whoro tho
temperature is regular, and not subject to
such variations as in more Northern lat it mles.
Paint ka is a point I can recommend. A good
hotel is kopt thoro by Potorman. Last win?

Ono hundred miles further down the river
is a point which I would prefer to Palatka, as
Mm tompovature ia more even and tho air dry
and bracing. Mcllouvillc and Enterprise arc
localed there. I should givo a decided pre?
ference to Mellonvillc. lt is two miles from
river or lake, and it seems almost impossible
to take cold lhere. Thc tables in Florida
might be helter, and patients complain at
times, but that is a good sign, as it indicates
.i return of appetite, and when this is tho caso
they generally increase in flesh, and then tho
lungs must beal.
Jacksonville, Hibernia, Green Covo, and
many other places in various parla of Florida,
can bo safely recommended to consumptives
in winter. My reasons for saying BO are that
patients are less liablo to take cold there than
where there is a less even temperature, and it
is not necessary to say that where a consump?
tive person esposes himself to frequent colds,
ho is certain to dio shortly. Thereforo, my
advico is, go well down into tho Stato. out ot
tho reach of prevailing Eaet winds and fogs.
Jacksonville, or almost any other of tho lo?
calities I havo named, will benefit HOBO who
aro troubled with a torpid liver, a disordered
stomach, deranged bowclB, soro throat or
cough, but for those whoso lungs aro diseased
a moro Southern point is earnestly recom?
mended.
For fifteen years prior to 18C?), I WBB profes?
sionally in New York, Bostou, Baltirnoro and
Philadelphia every week, where 1 saw and ex?
amined on au average fivo hundred patients a
week. A practice so extensive, embracing
every possible phase of lung disease, bas ena?
bled mo to understand tho disease folly, and
heneo my caution in regard to taking cold. A
person may take vast quantities of "Schcnck's
Pulmonic Syrup, Seaweed Tonic and Man?
drake Pills," and yet die if he docs not avoid
taking cold.
In Florida, nearly everybody is using
Schcnek'a Mandrake; Pills, lor tho climate is
moro likely to produce bilious habits than
moro Northern latitudes. It is a well estab?
lished fact that natives of Florida rarely die
of consumption, especially those of the South?
ern part. On tho other hand, in New Eng?
land, one-third, at least, of tho population
dio of this terriblo disease. In tho Middlo
States it does not prevail so largely, still
there aro many thousands of cases there.
What a vast per cent agc of lifo would ho saved
if consumptives were as easily alarmed in re?
gard to taking fresh cold as they arc about
scarlet fever, small-pox, Ac. Hut they arc
not. They take what they term a little cold,
which they aro credulous enough to believe
will wear off in a few days. They pay no at?
tention to it, and heneo it lays tho foundation
for another and another still, until tho lungs
are diseased beyond all hopo for cure.
My advico to persona whose lungs aro
affected even slightly ia, to lay in a stock of
Schenck'a Pulmonic Syrup, Schcnck's Seaweed
Tonic and Schenck'a Mandrake Pills and go
to Florida. I recommend these particular
medicines because I am thoroughly acquaint?
ed with their action. I know that where they
aro used in strict accordance with my direc?
tions, they will do the work that ia required.
This accomplished, nature will do the rest.
Thc physician who prescribes for cold, cough
or night-sweats, and then advises the patient
to walk or rido out every day, will be sure to
havo a corpse on his hands before long.
My plan is to give my three medicines, in
accordance with tho printed directions, ex?
cept in some cases where a freer use of the
Mandrake Pills ia necessary. My object ia to
give tono to tho stomach-to get up a good
appetite. It ?B always a good sign when a
patient begins to grow hungry. I have hopes
of such. With a relish for food and tho
gratification of that relish comes good blond,
and with it more flesh, which is closely fol?
lowed by a healing of tho lunga. Then the
cough loosens and abates, tho creeping chills
and clammy night-sweats no longer prout ?ute
and annoy, and tho patient geta well, provid?
ed ho avoids taking cold.
Now there aro many consumptives who have
not tho means to go to Florida. The quest ion
may bo asked, is there no hope for such?
Certainly (hero is. My advice to such is. and
ever has been, to stay in a warm room during
tho winter, with a temperature of about
seventy degrees, which should ho kept
regularly at that point, by means of a ther?
mometer. Let snell a patient take his ex?
ercise within the limits of tho room by walk?
ing up ami down as much as bis strength wiil
permit, in order to keep up a healthy circula?
tion of the blood. I have cured thousands
by this system, and can do so again. Con?
sumption is as easily cured aa any other
disease, if takcu in time, and tho proper kind
of treatment is pursued. Tho fact stands
undisputed un record that Scheuck's Pulmo?
nic Syrup, Mandrake Pills, and Seaweed Tonic
have cured very many of what teemed to be
hopeless cases* of consumption. Go where
you will, yon will be almost certain to lind
Homo poor consnroptivo who lias been rescued
from the very jaws of death by their uso.
So far as thu Mandrake Pills aro concerned,
everybody should koop a supply of them on
hand. They act on tho liver better than calo?
mel, and leave none ol its hurtful ellccts be?
hind. In fact, they ari- excellent in all cases
where a purgative" medicine is required. H
you have partaken too freely of fruit and
diarrhena ensues, a dose of the Mandrakes
will cure you. If you aro subject to sick
headache, "luke a dose of the Mandrakes and
they will relieve you ju two hours. If you
would obv?alo tho effect of a chango of water,
or the loo free indulgence in fruit, take
one, of tho Mandrakes every night or every
other night, and you may then drink water
and eat watermelons, pears, apples plums,
peaches or cuni, wit bout the risk of being sick
by them. They will protect those who live in
damp situations against chills and fevers.
Try them. They are perfectly harmless.
They can do you good onlv.
