COLUMBIA, S. C.. SUNDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 9, 1870.
VOL. VI-NO. 174.
^WiWiXiiwie^?n Ijew, Postmistress of
wlohmond,1 Va.; has decided that lbe
frank ol a Congressman will not carry a
. letter i?ailed at that office, ?hen sh? has
reason to believe that the Congressman
' is not in the city. That is, she means to
stop the bad practice indulged in by
Borne -Radical Congressmen, who furnish
franked envelopes to their friends herc
in order to cheat tho Government and
save their postage.
Forney has just completed tho circle
of his political life, and henceforth we
expect to hear less of him. When his
old benefactor, Buchanan, refused him
a position in the Cabinet, he rushed oiT
and started the Chronicle, and now that
Gen. Grant indulges in tho same snub,
he rushes off and sells it. Under the
circumstances, the best thing ho could
do.
A Schenectady youth, who took a gui?
tar and went under a window and ?ung,
"Fut me in my littlo bed," thinks ho
was understood some way, as tho girlV
brother came out and "stood him ou his
little head. " There was no music in the
brother's sole, a3 ho kicked the songster,
too.
"Hung bo tho hcaveus with black,"
exclaims the Macon Telegraph, "tho day
that sees Akerman come back to live in
Georgia." Oh, never mind hanging the
heavens, Hang Akermnu, and be done
with it.-Louisville Courier-Journal.
. Should the war between Sumner and
Grant become general, the "colored
. troops," os a matter of gratitude, should
fight on the side of the Massachusetts
Senator.
