Grand Drawing of tho North Carolina Bene?
ficial Association. 'J here woro 100 prizes in
all, and little rolls of paper separating these
wero placed in a wheel on one sido, while the
tickets wore in another wheel opposite to tho
former. Between tho two was a table, at
which sat the Judges and Mr. John Loudon,
Commissioner. Tito wheels woro roado with
glasB sides, BO that everything within them
could be seen, and were securely locked, until
the drawing began. This was dono by means
of two littlo boys, who wero securely blind?
folded, ono drawing a number from one of tho
wheels and tho other tho prizo to correspond
with it. There is no question but that the
drawing waa done in a perfectly fair and Just

TUE GUAM) DUAWINO YESTKUDAY.- The
grand single number distribution of the North
Carolina Beneficial Association, which took
placo at tho Theatre yesterday, at 1 o'clock,
was the all-absorbing theme during tho day.
Tho drawing took placo in public, a commit
tee having been selected from the audit nee
to act with the Commissioner in keeping an
account of the same, and to seo that it was
conducted fairly. Quito a respectablo crowd
was prosont to witness the drawing. Tho fol?
lowing numbers drew the principal prizes:
No. 3310. $5.000; No. 6005, $2.500; No. 5776,
$2,500; No. 2812, $2,000; No. 1407, $2,000; No.
4412, $1.000; No. 1486, $500. The Certificate
No. 1407 was sold to a citizen of Wilmington,

river or luke, and it seems almost Impossible
to tiiko cold there. Tho tables in Florida
might bo better, and patienta complain at
times, but that is a good sign, au it indicates
?\ return of appetite, and when this is tho case
thoy generally itiercato in flesh, and then the
lungs munt heal.
Jacksonville, Hibernia, Oreen Cove, and
many other places in various partB ol Florida,
can bo safely recommended to consumptives
in winter. Sly reasons for saying so are that
patients aro ICBS liable to tako cold there than
whore there is a lens oven temporaturc, and it
is not necessary to say that where a consump?
tive person exposes himself to frequent colds,
he is certain to die shortly. Therefore, my
advice is, go well down into tho State, cut ol
tho reach of prevailing East winds and fogs.

calities I have named, will benefit those who
are troubled with a torpid liver, a disordered
stomach, deranged bowels, soro throat or
j cough, hut for those whoso lungs aro diseased

For fifteen years prior to 18G?1,1 was profes?
sionally in New York, Huston, Baltimore and
Philadelphia every week, wbero I saw and ex?
amined on an average five hundred patients a
week. A practice so extensive, embracing
every possible phase of lung disease, has ena?
bled mo tu understand the disease fully, and
heneo my caution in regard to taking cold. A
person may tako vast quantities of "Schenck's
Pnlmonic Syrup, Seaweed Tonic and Man
drake Pills," and yet dio if ho does not avoid
taking cold.
In Florida, nearly everybody is using
Schenek's Mandrake Pills, Jeir the c imate is
moro likely to produce bilious habits than
more Northern latitudes. It is a well estab?
lished factth.it native* of Florida rarely die
of consumption, especially those of the South?
ern part. On the other hand, in New Eng?
land, one-third, at least, of tho populate n
die of thia terrible disease. In tho Middle
S!nien it does not prevail so largely, still
there are many thousands of cases there.

if consumptives wer? as casil) alarmed in re?
gard to taking fresh cold as they are about
scarlet fever, small-pox, &c. But they are
not. They take what they tel m a little cold,
which they aro credulous, enough to bo ievt
will wear off in a few days. They pay no at?
tention to it, and hence it lays tho foundation
for another and another still, r.ntil tho luugr
aro diseased beyond all hopo for cure.
My advice tu persons whose linios art
affected even slightly is. to lay in a steck ol
Schenek's Pulmouit. Syrup, Seheuck's Seaweed
Tonic and Schenek's Mandrake Pills and g?

medicines because I am thoroughly acquaint?

and annoy, and the patient gets well, provid

Certainly there is. My advico to such is. am
ever has been, to stay in a warm room dnriiii
tho whiter, with a" temperature of al-ou
sevouty degrees, which should ho kepi
regularly al that point, hy means of a thor
niumetcr. Let such a patient tako his t x
erciso within the limits of the room hy walk
ing up and down as much as bis strength wii
permit, in order to keep up a healthy circula
tion of tho blood. I have cured thousand
by this system, and can do so again. Cou
sumption is as easily cured as any othe
disease, if taken in time, and the proper kim
of treatment is pursued. The fact Marni
undisputed on record that Bcheuck's Pulmo
nie Syrup. Mandrake Pills, and Seaweed Toni
have cured very many of what seemed to b
hopeless cases" of consumption. Go wher
you will, you will be almost certain to fin
some poor consumptive who has boen rescue
from the very jaws of death by their uso.

everybody should keep a supply of them o
hand. They act on tho lirer better than cale
mel, and leave none of its hurtful effects bc
hind. In fact, they are excellent in all case
