AvF**Wv tas- THEM* ?BTADRKH BUHN ED IN ?UB HOUSE-HB RIDES NAKKD A Mina.-The roside'ooe i of Emanuel Helpman, situated on Seoiion 14 of the Township of Trowbridge, was entirely conan med by fire on the night of tho 24th nit., with three of his children-one boy and two girls. Mr. and Mrs. Help? man* barely esoaped with their other two children. Mr. Helpman had worked hard all day and retired quite early. Hm family soon followed, leaving the stovo red-hot and well filled. The fire must have caught in the roof from tho pipo, aa there was no chimney, and Mr. H. was awakened abont mid-night by the roof falling in. The fire had then blocked up the passage through the door, and be immediately aroused his wife, broke open a window, and palled her and two of the ohildren ont, none of them hav? ing anything on bnt their night clothes, and even those b?ing nearly burned off. Hie other boy came to the window, and Mr. H. had nearly succeeded in pulliug him out by the shirt, when the garment, which was badly burned, parted, and the boy fell back into the flames. Tho cries,of the little sufferers wcro heard for some time afterward, but they could not bo saved. Mr. Helpman then cover? ed his wife and rescued children up in the hay in the barn, and rode a horso ono milo to his nearest neighbor for as? sistance. When he arrived he was nearly frozen, that being the coldest night of the season, and be wholly naked. He sank into a state of uncon seioHsness as soon aa he told the story. The neighbors immediately rallied and famished all the assistance within their power. Mr. H. is in aoritical condition, being roasted and frozen in places. No calamity has ever before east such a uni? versal gloom over the community ns this Several hundred dollars have already been raised for the family. [.Detroit ( \fich ) Advertiser. HORRIBLE MURDER.-At an carly hour on Sunday morning, a horrible murder was committed in Bogue Homo, which for diabolical and premeditated villainy has been seldom equaled. Mr. Amos Harris, an old man about GO years old, was attacked about 4\ or 5 o'clock, on Sunday morning, by negroes, as was .supposed, and brutally murdered with an axe, the villain? breaking open th', door; Mrs. Harris was almost killed, receiving severe axe wounds in the face and head. Up to this morning, she was insensible; her life was at first wholly despaired of, but we learn uow that there is some hopes of her recovering She was very seriously injured. Ouo of Mr. Harris' sons was knocked down by the villains, and otherwise injured; as was also one of the girls. Mr. Mitchell, a near neighbor, hearing thc disturbance, got up and went to Mr. Harris', iu his night clothes. He clinched one of the villains, and in tho scuffle, fell down, tho scoundrels, meantime, getting uwuy. The object of the murderers was robbery. Mr. Harris was robbed of something over $300, besides pupers, etc. He bud also a bag of silver, which has not boen found, and may have beeu stolen. {Montgomery Mdt, 'IStlt. On tho night of the'16th, .fas. Bryan, a noted desperado, was Rhot and killed ' near Nashville, Ark., by James M. Nor 1 wood. Brynn had been employed by Norwood and discharged for intemper? ance, and swore he would kill Norwood and his wife. Hu made several attempts to carry out the threat. That night ho tried to enter tho house with a pistol, when Norwood fired with a shot-gun, killing him. Norwood surrendered him? self, aud was discharged. SODDEN DEATH.-Mr. T. Bernard King, a well known young member of the bar, was found dead in his bed, in Charles? ton, on Sunday morning. An inquest was held aud a verdict rendered of death by congestion of the brain. Mr. King was a uutive of Washington, D. C., and served gallantly in tho Confederate army. At the close of the war he settled in Charleston, and began tho practice of law. For Sale. ?KM.
