Mr. Shoepe, a brother-in-law, interfered
to stop further bloodshed, bnt was shot
dead by W. E. Nichols. Tho mnrderer
was committed to prison.
A colored woman, named Lucinda
Goldman, died at her home in Baltimore
on the 30th ult., haeiug attained, it is
claimed, the extraordinary age of 122
?ears and eight months. According to
er account, sho bad frequently seen
Washington and LaFayotto, in Norfolk,
j?ftH-her birth-place.

a boy named, Butler, aged fonrteen, shot
and instantly killed his brother's bride,
who had jnst arrived. The boy had
threatened to do so before the marriage.
Since his arrest he asserts that he was
instigated to the deed by his father,

Jonathan Crandall, a bank watchman
in Westerly, li. I., was shot through tho
head and killed, by two strangers, on the

A brick block in Fort Smith, Ark.,
known as officers' quarters, was barned
on the 30th nit. Loss $50,000.

at tho Theatre, yesterday noon, to witness the
Grand Drawing of the North Carolina Bene?
ficial Association. Tbero were 100 prizes in
all, and little rolls of paper separating those
were placed in a wheel on one sido, while the
tickets woro in another wheel opposite to tbe
former. Between the two waa a table, at
which nat the Judges and Mr. John London,
Commissioner. The wheels were made with
gloss sides, BO that everything within them
could bo soon, and were securely looked, until
tho drawing began. This was done by meaba
of two little hoy H, who were securely blind?
folded, ono drawing a number from one of tbe
wheels and the other the prize to correspond
with it. There is no question but that tho
drawing waB done in a perfectly fair and just
