THE DAILY
'Let our Jutt Censure
Attend tho True Event."
BY J. A. SELBY.
COLUMBIA, S. C.. SUNDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 9, 1870.
VOL. VI-NO. 174.
OD Monday eight last, while a little
Eanorama was being exhibited at the
ouse of Mr. Atterberry, in Barnwell, n
party of desperadoes entered the camp
o? some railroad hands, who were absent
at tho show, and carried off a quantity of
their baggage. Not contented with tbip,
they Recru tort themselves near by, and,
on the approach of the hands towards
their camp, they were fired on nome
eight or teu times by the robbers, who
then fled. About half an hour af.er thu
show, and when everything seemed still,
the1 demons returned, and, when within
a few pacos of their little shanty, fired a
volley of fifteen balls into that and ugain
disappeared. While this was going on,
the wagon belonging to tho showman
was hauled to the woods, and there
burned.
On Snnday evening, a lad named
Hugh Haley, was accidentally killed in
Angosta, Ga., by another Iud named
Shields. Careless uao of firo-arms.
Augusta has lost another old and re?
spected merchant-Mr. Andrew Stevens
-who died on the 17th.
