Division Superintendent Martin, who received ?17,000 of tho money, fled to Canada. The Salt Inspector reports 268,979 bushels; inorease over last year 02,000 bushels. NEW YORK, Deoember 17.-A Herald special from Raleigh, N. C., the 17th, says tho Judiciary Committee of the House has been in continuous session since Thursday, framing articles of im? peachment against Holden. Tho arti? cles are still unfinished, but will be com? pleted on Monday, when the Senate will arraign the Governor, and his official f unotions will cease. The trial will not commenoe until after the Christmas re? cess. It is rumored to-night that Gen. B. F. Butler will como down to defend Holden, who has trouble finding efficient home defenders. WASHINGTON, December 18.-Tho Cen? tral Market was burned to-day. Two persons perished in the flames. The telegraph committee of the House is unanimous in favor of the Govern? ment telegraph, bat divided as to plans. SANTA Fa, Deoember 18.-At El Paso, on the 7th inst., B. F. Williams, a law? yer, shot Senator Fountain, wounding him seriously. Williams, while resisting arrest, killed Judge Clark. The Senate was discussing a motion to print the Patent Office reports. In the Senate, the House bill regu? lating the classification of duties on su? gar was hriefly considered. Vickers said he had received a letter objecting to the bill, from a large sugar dealer in Balti? more, and the bill went over until to? morrow. Bills were introduced to admit Colorado as a State, and to incorporate the Bed Biver Baft Company, providing for the removal of the raft by private enterprise; tho corporators to bo reim? bursed by tolls. Tho bill to indemnify J. Milton Best, of Paducah, Kentucky, a Union man, for the destruction of his dwelling during the battle at that place, in 1861, was debated upon general ques? tions of policy. Without action, ad? journed. Drake took the iron-clad oath and assumed the Chief Justiceship of the Court of Claims. This is tho only Court which exacta this oath. Tho Judiciary Committee of the House agreed to report tho Senate bill for tho relief of purchasers of lands sold by direct tax Acts in the South. NEW YORK, December 19.-Several hundred breakmen on the Erie Railroad struck, alleging that it is simply impos? sible to sustain life on less than $2 per day. Tho strikers carried away the cou? pling pins from Hornetsville. Hundreds of freight cars have been blocked. Stock is dying on the cars. Matters were so threatening yesterday that the sheriff of Steubor County swore in as deputies half the male population of Hornetsville. Subsequently he called out a regiment of militia. Passenger trains were un? molested, but tho freight completely blocked. Advices from San Domingo to the 9th announce the safety of United States vessels after the terrible gales. Tho Cabreo insurrection, backed by Hayti, was assuming formidable proportions. Notwithstanding the interruption of tho two Euglish cables, accumulated de? spatches havo all been transmitted.
