An Arkansas editor apologizes for tho
lack of editorial in his paper by saying
that "the day had been consumed in an?
swering challenges and arranging pre?
liminaries to fight." He says "a press?
ure cf editorial duties had allowed those
matters to accumulate on his hands for
Baverai days, so that he had to devote
considerable time to settling them all in
a lump." He assures his readers that
"it will not ocour again, os he has so dis?
posed his corps of assistants SB to allow
him time to give immediato attention to

occurrence. "
Some of the people of East Berkshire,
Vt., are the most diabolically blood?
thirsty savages on tho face of the earth.
They recently tarred and feathered a
venerable gentleman seventy y .-ara of
age, and for no other cause than that he
had seen fit to retire from the abode of
his wife and twenty ohildren and take up
his residence with o neighboring female.
And this in the third quarter of the
nineteenth century.
A young lady with a pretty foot, but a
rather large ankle, went into a shoe store
to be measured. The admiring clerk,
who is of Gallic extraction, compliment?
ed her in the following queer way:
"Madam, yon have one bootiful foot,
but ze leg commence too immediately."
A. T. Stewart has purchased St. Ann's
Church, in Eighth street, New York, for
$160,000. He will build on the site a
hotel for young men.
